The free maintenance just wrapped up on our Santa Cruz.

I'll be having the oil changed at Valvoline Instant oil change. I keep a record of every oil change in carfax for the powertrain warranty.

No i don't change my own oil anymore.

Interesting that they offered me a Valvoline MaxLife Synthetic Blend 0w20 oil change for $72 after coupon (6.1 quarts), or a 0w20 Full Synthetic oil change for roughly $105.

I thought that 0w oils were always full synthetic.

Is a bit of marketing at play here?

Anyways I'm going to run the 0w20 Maxlife in this car every 5k miles without fail. It exceeds all the specs in the owners manual.

A bottle of royal purple fuel additive or techron every 5k miles as well.

At one point Motorcraft offered a 0W20 blend, but then it updated to a full synthetic. Which people here argue it isn't really, but the bottle says it so there's that.

Found it.

this is an anyone that walks in the door price at AAP for Valvoline synthetic 0w-20. can improve this price at walmart.

may be worth seeing if a local indy mechanic will change the oil for a couple bucks if you bring the materials?

I can name five 0w-20 synthetic blends off the top of my head. Ph66 Shield, Kendall, Motorcraft, Castrol UltraClean, Amsoil. They're out there.

Yes, 0w-20 comes in blend. I use Valvoline Instance Oil Change or Kwik Kar for the Malibu. But I get the full synthetic and do it when the OLM says to which is usually 7,000-7,500 miles. Also it would not shock me if they only carry one type of 0w-20 and use it regardless of which one you purchase.

5k miles could be iffy to perfectly fine, depending on how the car is used.

The problem I have with "blends" is that there's all the world of difference between having 5% synthetic and 95% synthetic and they are both "blend" oils.

We all know that economics dictates that the amount of synthetic blended in will be the absolutely bare legal minimum if not required to meet a performance target or certification.

5k is cake for most full synthetics in most duty cycles. But change the duty cycle and change the oil to a blend or dino, and 5k might just mean you have stuck rings at 80k miles...

To me, red jug maxlife is for old cars where the engine is already in better shape than the rest of the car and there's no value in keeping it immaculate for the junkyard.
