Need for AutoRX if no issues & good history?

My van had 177,000 miles on it, was clean as a whistle, and ran like a clock. Always ran synthetic motor oil. Just for the heck of it I ran ARX through it to see what would happen. By George the power went up, MPG went up, and it ran even better. My guess is that there was carbon build up in the...

    Wind Chill of -35 celsius!

Wind chill relates to how fast material will cool in the wind. The more wind the faster the material will cool to the ambient temperature. Hense, a pipe could freeze in a wind because it cools faster not because it is colder.

    Amsoil EAO filter Microns

Gary, I think you have the cost of the filters wrong. The last I saw the EaO was something like $20+, Mobil 1 was $11+, and Pure One was $6+. Big premium there to get the best filter when the data indicates that engines run a really long time on $2.00+ filters.

Insoluables, is it a measure of filter performance

From time to time I see people mention that high levels of insoluables is a reason to change the oil filter. However, in the 3MP Synthetic Oil Life Study when the filter was changed for a new one the insoluables did not go down with a new filter. Just what is the relationship here?

10w30 & 5w30 - is there really that much diff?

Given that the 5w30 and 10w30 are both 30w at full temp and the 5w30 is thinner than the 10w30 at all colder temps, what would be the advatage of running 10w30? Seems like 5w30 would be hands down better.

    Replace battery every five years?

I worked for a company that made battery cases for automotive applications. The saying there was summer heat kills the battery and winter cold is when it will die. Year after year it proved to be true.

Any real difference in oil filters? Wal-Mart OK?

Opinions vary all over the map, everything from an oil filter is not needed to an oil filter is critical to long engine life. An inexpensive house brand filter will generally work just fine and filter your oil to some degree. A premium name brand filter (Amsoil, Mobil 1, K&N, Pure one, etc.)...

Do oil temps exceed operating temperatures?

Given that you have an effective cooling system the hot end of the temperature scale is little problem, even on the hottest days (not on track or racing). Cold on the other hand could be a problem if the vehicle is left in the cold temps too long. You never know what the future will bring. So...
