I am running a Premium Plus oil filter. I plan to draw a sample for a particle count at about 4500 miles. I then plan to replace filter with new Pure One filter without changing oil, run for a short time and pull another sample for a comparative PC. I want to see if the P1 cleans up the oil to any measurable degree. I'd like your opinion on how long to run the P1 filter before pulling a sample. (50 miles? 100 miles? 500 miles? other ideas?) Thanks.

A couple of things to consider here.

Ideally, you want to sample both after a somewhat long drive, where the engine and oil is at operating temperature and at highway RPMs for something like 20 minutes/miles, or longer if you do a lot of cold weather short trip driving.

Don't add any oil when you swap the filters as it'll skew the results.

You want to be careful on what conclusions you draw as filter efficiency generally increases as they are loaded. Thus it may be the case that a 4.5K mile PP filters as efficient as a new P1. There may also be cold temperature oil bypass effects not seen under certain test procedures.
