Mix 1-2 qts of Diamond SPIII with Mercon for Ford?

Hi- I had an 03 Montero that required Diamond III trans fluid. I have a fresh case left over since I sold the truck. Do you guys think I can safely use 2 qts per fluid change on my 2006 Ford Freestar (uses Mercon V of course)? I am not sure and don't want to mess up the trans. Thanks!

Amsoil Gear Oil in 2007 Honda Element Manual Trans

The manual recommends Honda fluid (ATF) in the manual. This seems pretty 'thin' to me. Any reason I cannot use a synthetic gear oil instead? Will it cause increased wear? If anything, I think shifting should be a lot smoother than it is. Any thoughts? Jack

Diamond SPIII in a Freestar (replacing Mercon V)?

Hi - I have a case of Diamond SPIII in the garage that I can no longer use - sold my Montero. Can I safely use in my Freestar van? Thanks!

    Cheap AutoZone brake pads

I have used the cheap pads and rotors before on 3 vehicles, all with the same bad results. Pads squeal and wear out fast, and the rotors warp. Take the $$ you are saving by doing the work yourself and get good parts. It's not worth the aggrevation. Just my thoughts...

    '02 Silverado power steering whine

Just turkey baste some Royal Purple in, after sucking as much out as you can. Repeat over a few days and the whine should go away. Worked well on my Grand Prix, Celica and Bonneville.

    Synthetic ATF?

So rsylvstr,(and anyone else) will there be issues with me using Mobil syn fluid in my 2006 Freestar? Will it void the warranty? I have heard on other forums that the transmission will need to reprogram itself over time with driving, due to the more slippery fluid. Any truth to this? THanks

Cars you OWNED and Loved to drive

I had 3 cars that really stuck with me. '79 280ZX - it was heavy, but had decent power and high top end. This was my first car and it was fun and super durable - taking a beating from a then 17 year old kid. '85 Merkur xr4ti - this was a pretty new unique looking and driving car for the time...

Why are most synthetic OCIs at 6k miles or less?

With sampling, you can easily go to 10k. I did it twice on my Grand Prix - Amsoil oil and filter (changed the filter at 5k). The car had 120k when I traded it for a...gulp....minivan. It still ran great.

    '99 Chevrolet S10 Questions

Dude, that is too pricey. I agree with 01rangerxl - look at a full size f150 with the v6.

    Some Maintaince Guidance, Please?

Look up Blackstone Labs to do an oil analysis. It's about $32 now. Your car is newer and it looks like you have been good about oil and filter changes. I don't think you would need to do anything different. I have done 7k intervals on my 2003 Montero LTD (Mobil 1 and Mobil 1 filter) with no...

    About a tranny filter?

I have a Permacool remote trans filter on my Montero LTD. This truck doesn't come with a changable filter, just a screen.....

    change to sythentic?

If you're going with 3-4k change intervals, the MC oil is just fine. It's a proven product and it's cost effective. There are tons of posts here about it's high quality.

Who uses Royal Purple and is HAPPY with it?

I use their gear oils and think it's very good stuff. I don't think anyone can really dispute the quality and reputation of their products. They have been around long enough to prove themselves as well.

    Best oil to use?

You've gotten a lot of miles out of that car to date, so I bet any synthetic will do you just fine at this point. It will probably rust out before it dies...

    Hemi oil nasty!

Color does not matter. You probably don't need to change it that often no matter what oil you use....

    Mitsubishi AT fluid

Don't use anything other than the Diamond III fluid. I am sure this is a thread covered multiple times here and in other forums - mitsubishiforums.com. Go to Kia or Hyundai and save a few bucks on the Diamond III like I do, it's a little cheaper there. I would not use anything else. As far...

Changed Diff and Xfer cases - lots of shavings?!

My wife is really easy on the gas and brakes, so I will just leave it in until 60k. Thanks! I agree with you on the maintenace diligence. I ensure all fluids are changed regularly: *Brake fluid flushed and filled when new pads/rotors installed *PS fluid changed via syringe method every few...

Yes, I do my own maintenance if that was what you were asking.
