Hi-

I had an 03 Montero that required Diamond III trans fluid. I have a fresh case left over since I sold the truck. Do you guys think I can safely use 2 qts per fluid change on my 2006 Ford Freestar (uses Mercon V of course)? I am not sure and don't want to mess up the trans.

Thanks!

SPIII is a carpy fluid and I would not substitute it for Merc V, which is a much better fluid, IMHO. You should be able to sell the ATF to Hyundai owners as most of them believe ANYTHING other than SPIII will kill the trans nearly instantly.

Amsoil in my father's Elantra for 6K miles now just for reference....

I would not risk trying to use the wrong fluid in any application. The savings for a case which would be less than $50 are far out weighted if it caused even minor damage down the road.

I agree, and I agree: as a Hyundai owner I would be willing to buy if the price is right.
