yes or no to the almighty z max

I know 2 people that have used it, they swear their mileage improves when using Zmax, I don't know to each their own, for forty bucks a treatment, the mileage would have to improve a [censored] of alot. I've never used any additives, don't plan on it either.

    Auto-Rx In 2004 Mercury Marauder

It is your time/money it is only a waste if you think so. I would have changed the oil when 1st getting the vehicle, after that if your gonna run a synthetic, I would go more than the 5K your are currently doing. If your sticking to 5K becasue of the warranty, I would run dino or something...

    5w40 instead of 5w30?

If it's a gasket, Auto-RX, HM oils and so forth won't help. They may help if it is a seal leaking around a shaft, but the likely hood of it helping a gasket leak are slim to none.

    ZDDP not affected by SM

Frank & TallPaul, I agree with yall, that is what I'm saying/asking, I've been using the VR1 because of the high ZDDP, but I keep reading posts about SM being reduced and wanted clarification. The SM designation does NOT require lowered ZDDP.

    ZDDP not affected by SM

I use VR1 30 wt in my '67 mustang. I was told by Valvoline and others that it has high levels of ZDDP, but on the containers it also meets SM. I called Valvoline tech support and they said one of those other specs islac? GF? something, I don't remember right now, calls for the reduction of ZDDP...

PP 5W-30 OK for 10,000 miles

I normally run M1 5W-30 EP in all my vehicles, I run it for 10,000 miles and change it, no UOA or anything. With IKE and all the M1 was hit and miss so I bought Pennzoil Plat. Any problems with this? Vehicle this is in is a '06 Silverado with the 6.0L

    Low use '69 Mustang 428CJ

Some of the guys on the mustang forums add the ZDDP plus stuff, but it is kind of pricey. I used Valvoline VR-1 for the first 1K miles or so on my '67 mustang. I then switched to M1 Turbo diesel 5W-40.

I see repetitive questions but i will still click on them and read the responses, there is always room to learn new things. I don't post much...

    .223 for deer unethical?

I tend to agree with most, kind of depends on the situation also. I'm in TX and using a .223 is not illegal to hunt deer, but .22LR is illegal, I would say that it wouldn't be my first choice though. The deer are smaller down here.
