I normally run M1 5W-30 EP in all my vehicles, I run it for 10,000 miles and change it, no UOA or anything. With IKE and all the M1 was hit and miss so I bought Pennzoil Plat. Any problems with this? Vehicle this is in is a '06 Silverado with the 6.0L

Should be fine. PP actually has a higher initial Tbn than Mobil 1 now. I believe it's on par with M1 EP.

PP can go to 10,000 miles. Will it do it well in your case?

I would not run ANY oil out to 10,000 miles with out doing UOAs.
So I am going to say get a UOA. Your driving style, habits, drive times, weather, filters, temps, load, ect. . . . all come into play.

Stay with M1 5-30EP and you will never wear out your engine. This web site has created the M1 histeria. See my UOA post on page 4, 07 Focus. TBN for this oil is 10.5 or better so your good for 10 to 15Ks at least.

I'm staying with M1, it's just been slim pickens with the hurricane. PP seems to get alot of positive press on here, so I figured now would be a good time to try it

You mean it died from anemia?

I would change the filter (using an Amsoil filter) at 5,000 miles and top it off with either M1 or PP.

Right on Critic. Not sure about the posters 6.0L, but the OLM on my 6.0L (GMC Sierra Denali) always seems to trigger between 5,000-6,500 miles. I use Mobil 1.

+1. For vehicles that are equipped, people should USE the OLM. It is a MUCH better predictor of OCIs that static mileages. Use whatever oil (dino, blend, syn) you feel comfortable with over the course of the OLM interval. My Silverado 5.3 does about 5500-6000 also. My 2.4 Ecotec will go 9000+.

It usually hits 10% remaining life at roughly 8500 -9000 miles. One thing I'm unsure about is whether it is calibrated for synthetic, as this is the same motor that the AWD performance SS trucks get, although mine is a crew cab 4WD?? I know the SS are calibrated for synthetic, unsure about this one.

They don't care about Synthetic or conventional, they are based up oil sump volume, revolutions and cold starts. Very accurtate and the formula is off the minimum spec oil for the vehicle.

They are different if they come with synthetic from factory. I understand what you are saying, the monitor doesn't know if you put synthetic oil or olive oil, but they are programmed different.

If GM specs synthetic oil from the factory, your OLM is calibrated to expect synthetic oil. It has no way of knowing what you put in the sump... only what GM engineers programed it to expect. I believe the 6.0L in the trucks only requires conventional oil meeting 6094M specs (not sure about the SS). Running any off the shelf synthetic for the lenght of your OLM will give you a buffer. That's what I do in both of my GM vehicles. If GM REQUIRES you to use synthetic oil, your owners manual will specify so and also require it meets 4718M spec. That is GM's requrirement for synthetic oils.

Olive oil is better if from a can, not the plastic bottle.
