Super Tech syn 5w30 was pretty good. Super Tech syn 0w-20 was better. Super Tech syn 5w-20 the best. Vanilla M1 (any flavor except 10w30 HM) was the worst.

Rotella 15w40 in the lawn tractor. It feels smoother than straight 30.
Seems like it starts easier and idles smoother.

with strong engine +- few horses will pass unnoticed.
on weaker engines, change should be obvious.
Quaker State Ultimate Durability was always the quietest for me. Unfortunately I'm a deal whore so I only buy it when I need it which is rarely.

i remember one article where it says "standard" size car needs only 10kw power on flat road to keep same speed ~45mph.
in other words; to make work all horses together, u need to keep accelerating hard (pedal to metal).
In the wife's Elantra for 5w-20 it was Magnatec, 10 decibels quieter than PP on my cheap meter, and for 5w30 it's Quaker State Full Synthetic.
My older 98 Tahoe was by far the smoothest/quietist on RGT 5w30.
The X5 had no change between TPT 5w30 and Quaker State Full Synthetic 5w-40.
Mustang GT doesn't seem to care.
