Would you buy a new 06 Pontiac GTO LS2 for 25K

If you're going to discuss a car, it's highly likely that people will give negative and postive opinions.

That is true but, all too often it is the same old people that chime in with the SOS like that's an American car stay away from it or some other nonsence like that. The GM (and Ford) bashing on this site is way over the top and outweighs any anti-J A P or anti-Euro threads greatly.

That must be it. With the platform sharing that is common I must have assumed they were the same. I now recall we have an enthusiast with a GTO "Sarge?"
After reading about it on the Pontiac website it sounds like a good value for 25k. Probably not the "car" for me(If I am getting a car rather than truck or SUV I am getting a two seater ).The GTO appears to provide excellent performance for the buck and would certainly be a blast to drive but I am not sure I could be happy with a coupe myself.

Put that power in a Solstice and I am in line!

"I prefer to support American workers both at GM and Ford as well as Delphi, Dana, Borg Warner American axle etc and buy a Superior product."

Then you could buy a Honda made in Ohio, or a Toyota, or Nissan made in Tennessee. I just bought a Chrysler Pacifica thinking I indirectly was helping buy "American." It was made in Canada! Before that, a PT Cruiser: nope, made in Mexico! So I guess I'll buy a Toyota or Honda or Nissan or Kia (new plant coming here) next time, and better help out some American worker. Everyone should be happier now.

And no, I wouldn't buy a Pontiac GTO for 25K. I might buy a Dodge Charger/Magnum for that price, but alas I would be helping out our Canadian neighbors again.

In fact, it's gotten soooo bad that this place has a "reputation" (are you listening mods???) on domestic sites for this very thing. This is a SHAME!
I have to forewarn anyone I send to this site that it is UNBEATABLE for good info/discussion, but be ready to duck & fight back when the inevitable GM/domestic BASHING starts (and start it WILL!)

DD,
It is easy to perceive that if coming from a brand specific enthusiast site. The fact is we all have our likes and dislikes and when you come here you are participating with a more diverse group of people with many different tastes and experiences that shape their opinions.

Everyone wants to be on the winning team and that includes vehicle owners with whatever brand they favor. It is part of our American Ego to want to be associated with winners.

Name calling and complaining that a site has different points of view is not going to make any particular brand appear better.

So instead of getting bent out of shape becasue some posters outright refuse to consider a domestic, ask why that is and vice-versa

I know it's not this topic, but there does seem to be a double standard.

It was asked about folks owning a GM newer than 2000, but when the same question was turned around and asked of someone regarding a Toyota, it appeared to be treated as an irrelevent question.

I'm not pro American Car or pro Japanese car, I'm pro best car possible.

Now, I understand that is going to be different for everybody. For some, that means RWD, big V8, lots of torque. For others, best car possible is small, light, real stick shift. For still others, it may mean highest probability for a reliable car.

Personally, I think both sides of the import/domestic debate that perform personal attacks, either by comments akin to the Mayberry RFD or the importkeisterkissers type (just to name a few and not to be considered the only ones to be examined) should be banned for a week or more and schooled in the expectations for discussion here.

If you don't like a particular car, comment on the car.

Comments on those who choose one type of car or another should be grounds for warning and if continuned, then temporary and finally total ban.

Comments on cars, positive or negative, ok.
Comments on people based on race, color, religion, politics, or carmaker choice should bring immediate consequences.

I would have made my comments when I notified the moderators of my own post, but this board doesn't allow comments.

So I just wanted to say I notified the moderating team of my post above.

I hope they consider this type of action.

If others want the same, the please, say so.

I'm pro-car, anti personal attack.

I agree the personal attacks are what hurts the credibility of this forum. The opinions on Cars and oil and facts and references to back them up do not.

There is no question that we got a sweetheart deal on these cars as compared to what a Monaro buyer would have had to pay in the home market.

I hope we get the same sweet deal on the Commodore when Pontiac puts it on sale later this year. It's on my short list to replace my Xj12 which is now retired to the back of the shop.

If you do get one, get it to a wheel alignment specialist straight away. The ones that have turned up at work (manager's cars, SV-6s) have had horrid rear wheel steer...easily fixed, but the dealer seems incompetent.

Having 3 times the torsional rigidity of the older version apparently makes a well sorted Commodore a joy.

It would be good if you got the utes, Adventras, Cross 8s etc as well.

(we're getting the H3 soon...will be interesting, as our trails were blazed with much more narrow vehicles, as H1 owners found really quickly)

Good points.
I'm glad there are some that see both sides of this topic.
I have friends that say this place is unfriendly to import owners, so the shoe seems to fit both feet, so to speak.

I find it ironic that people "reported" on posters from the import side, yet the demeaning threads from the other side mostly remain.

Seems to indeed be a double-standard here.

When threads turn personal, I just quit reading. There is nothing learned, nor knowledge acquired, and the nice banter goes sour.

Most of the time the problem starts on a GM thread and results in the import owners insulting the domestic people. Then if the domestic owners respond, the import people whine "double standard, personal insult", etc. I say don't dish it out if ya can't take it. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

Now that's pretty funny as the domestic crowd appears to be then one's whining and "can't take it"
I see that what was said is true here.
Even your reply backs that up.

Too bad, but it appears the link to the moderators goes right to you guys.

good #@$%!...what is with the discussions of japan, europe and american cars when the car that the ENTIRE THREAD is supposed to be about is from Australia?

LOL - it appears people don't like Aussie beer or cars here!

I can assure you that the GTO is a 2-seater. The back seats are there, but they're just for looks!

Yeah, I've met Sarge, and he can put his money where his mouth is with his GTO.

As for bang for the buck, that's what this was all about. For the money, I submit that it's the best performance value out there. I didn't fall in love with the looks; I bought one for the LS1 ('04), the nice interior, and the independent rear.

Ironic, the "Buy American" crown appears to be rooting for the Made in Australia, GTO.

Sometimes I just love to watch people

Note, I am commenting on the irony, not the people

Since ScottB is no longer here posting, I can only assume that he got banned due to the dimes that got dropped - according to the above posts?
Too bad.
It seems that only some people are allowed their 2-cents here.

As for the GTO, who says they're $25k? They're $34k here that I've seen - are they discounting them THAT much?
Yikes.

You can find them new for the mid-20s all day long. MSRP is around $35k or so. My '04 stickered at $33k+. I bought it for $24.5k OUT THE DOOR with no GM points or anything else other than a willing dealer in January '05.
