Car: Acura Integra automatic, 97, 175k miles, used for commuting and carpooling (2-4 people on a regular basis) and mostly freeway commute.

Still ride alright, I feel that the shocks are worn as braking will make the nose dive. I am going to replace them with either Tokico Blue or Bilstein, and enjoy another 120k or so before I get another car. Now while I am at it, I am thinking about replacing all the bushings too.

The question is, I heard that bushing is expensive labor wise and definitely not a low hanging fruit. Last time I heard if you take the whole suspension apart and bring it to the shop, just pressing them in/out will cost $250. If you bring the car in and have them take them apart, then it is well over $800 to $1000. Not worth it for a car that is only $5000 or so.

Anyone have any suggestion? Just inspect and replace as you need? or do they usually last 2x as long as shocks?

The car is not raced or beaten, just driving with heavy load (hauling 3 people and cargo on a regular basis).

Sway bar link ends and bushings can be done easily, by yourself.
The pressed in bushings are tough - they can really be seized in there.
You can take a few parts off at a time, and have a shop replace the bushings. Spreading out the work over time will make it easier.
An alignment is in your future, afterwards.

Honda/Acura suspension bushings are good. Don't teplace them unless you have a problem or just want to be retentive about your car maintenance.

Because almost all stock bushings are made of rubber, which will deterioriate over time (even if it's stilling in your car port). You shall still consider replacing them every 6+ years to restore proper handling characteristics.

If you don't notice a handling problem or other bushing related problems and the tires aren't wearing funny, replacing the bushings is a waste of time and money.

Bushings are a wearing item -- age, climate, miles -- that most ignore. My experience is that it is worth the trouble (in keeping a vehicle 12-15 years) for safety, comfort and peace of mind.
