Hey guys, hope I don't get flamed too bad for asking about XP filters. I've read through about 100 threads on here regarding these filters, and it's either "Run them, they're fine" or "They're not efficient enough to be considered an oil filter"...... So which one is it....LoL. I can get my hands on these for 50% off retail, so that's why my interested vs something else.
It was explained to me the lower filtration percentage is to directly promote greater flow WITH filtration instead of going into by-pass with zero filtration on cold starts and hard driving conditions (don't know how much truth behind that). Is it even worth buying these if I can get them for like $6 ?

ISO 4548 testing results for flow vs delta-p in link below - thanks to member @Ascent Filtration Testing.

The XP is a hair better flowing, but isn't as efficiency as the Ultra per ISO 4548-12 advertised efficiency. The difference in delta-p vs flow will not matter whatsoever because engines use a positive displacement oil pump.

What's most important to you when you buy and use an oil filter?

The Wix XP filter is designed for extended service intervals. So if that's what you are doing, the XP is for you. But if you are doing 7500 miles or less on an oil filter, I would run the regular WIX since the price is about the same and the efficiency is better. Just my $0.02

I only run synthetic media. Use the XP or the Napa Platinum equivalent.

There is more to a filter than bench testing.... how it does in a real engine is a far cry from bench testing.

And, as seen with GM issues, even with a PD pump, certain filters can cause lower oil pressures and reduce flow in the engine. Someone refuses to admit to pump slip and overreacting pump dump bypasses caused by restrictive filters, especially when loaded. PD only works on paper and not in the real world.

This two links are worth reading and understanding, especially the 3 pictures in the 1st link and one interesting paragraph in the 2nd link.

Nobody has ever claimed that PD pumps are 100% perfect (ie, no "slip"). A health PD pump in an ICE isn't too far off from 100% though. It would take a completely clogged filter with a tiny bypass valve to cause any healthy PD pump to go into pressure relief ... especially when the oil is warm and not even close to high revs. If oil pressure changes because of an oil filter at hot idle, it's certainly no the oil pump unless it's completely shot/worn out.

Remember when the claim was that the PureOne filters were very flow restrictive because they were "too efficient"? Guess what, that's a total misconception as proved by a flow vs delta-p test. And that's not even a full synthetic media filter.

I've used them twice on my DTS. They're great. But I wouldn't pay the full price for them ($11-13). I've bought them on Napa's flash sale for $5

Ok, gonna throw everyone a curve ball here....... I went to my guy to get some of the WIX XP filters, however he said the deal for the XP filters he offered no longer is available, but he can extend the same deal for the Purolator Boss filters to me now. They would be like $7.00 vs $6.00 for the XP. He buys in bulk and usually picks up whatever he can for the cheapest bulk prices. He moved his entire inventory of XP filters he had, and now has a huge inventory of Purolator Boss filters. I really wanna jump on buying at least 2 cases while he has them before they're gone. Is $7.00 a good price for that filter ? I really don't know that much about them except watching YouTube videos the last 24hrs....HaHa

What is the vehicle you plan to run these on? RA had a couple of the FPS (Ultra without the texture) still in stock for $2-3.

2020 Ford F150 3.5 EcoBoost. No offense on the Fram's, I understand the Ultra's are a completely different filter from their days of old, but I personally had a Fram "orange can of death" destroy an engine (media inside tore and completely collapsed after only 2K miles). I cannot bring myself to buy anything with the Fram label on it. Even though this happened 15 years ago, I still hold a grudge for costing me $3K for an engine. If someone offered me a lifetime supply of Fram's, I'd sell them and buy something else......LoL

10-4, just seemed like you were looking for a quality synthetic filter at a discount. Hard to be the Ultra for $2-3 but RA does not have a FPS to fit your application.

Nah, just the usual unsubstantiated anti-this or anti-that post by certain types of posters. You know.
Unsubstantiated ??? Oil pressure went to nearly ZERO, then within seconds of this happening, my engine spun 3 main bearings and 4 rod bearings. Upon cutting the filter open after engine teardown, the media was a balled up wad of crap that was so wadded up it blocked the bypass valve also, which then led to nearly ZERO oil being circulated through my engine. Just FYI, at 2,500 rpm 3 psi of oil pressure just won't cut it for protection. I can assure you my post was 100% substantiated (y)
