Unsubstantiated ??? Oil pressure went to nearly ZERO, then within seconds of this happening, my engine spun 3 main bearings and 4 rod bearings. Upon cutting the filter open after engine teardown, the media was a balled up wad of crap that was so wadded up it blocked the bypass valve also, which then led to nearly ZERO oil being circulated through my engine. Just FYI, at 2,500 rpm 3 psi of oil pressure just won't cut it for protection. I can assure you my post was 100% substantiated (y)

One persons description is not exactly “substantiated” evidence. I’ve never heard of any filter doing what you describe.

You're right......what was I thinking, you weren't there in person to witness it so there's no way it ever happened. An oil filter has never caused engine failure in the history of automotives unless you were there to witness it, got it.......(y)

This is the internet. Take everything with plenty of salt.

My unbelievable story is looking at a old Plymouth Fury that had the rear end of the body almost torn off from hitting a mailbox. Unbelievable but a whole bunch of us saw it and substantiated the story after we went back and picked up tools and stuff that came out of the trunk at the scene. It was a fluke.

Wasn't one of these was it. I probably built a 100 of these back in my masonry days and have seen cars totaled from running into them, they really should be outlawed. Also the ones we build around her have to beat frost so the footer is 4' deep.

... I personally had a Fram "orange can of death" destroy an engine (media inside tore and completely collapsed after only 2K miles). I cannot bring myself to buy anything with the Fram label on it. Even though this happened 15 years ago, I still hold a grudge for costing me $3K for an engine.
I'm curious what engine this was on, and what the operational conditions were. Why didn't you contact Fram and have them pay for the repairs?

2020 Ford F150 3.5 EcoBoost. No offense on the Fram's, I understand the Ultra's are a completely different filter from their days of old, but I personally had a Fram "orange can of death" destroy an engine (media inside tore and completely collapsed after only 2K miles). If someone offered me a lifetime supply of Fram's, I'd sell them and buy something else......LoL
Understandable dislike for a brand. The Wix has a question mark, does the bypass valve leak, or doesn’t it? This applies to all the series. There is a recent thread here using the bubble point test. The Wix bubbled at the bypass valve.

It was a 93 Mustang GT, 302 engine......Conditions were me shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear. I did contact Fram, after FINALLY getting to talk to someone, they said because my engine was "modified" and not stock, they denied any liability.

Did you modify the oil pump and/or the pump pressure relief valve? Shifting 2nd to 3rd at high RPM at the drag strip maybe?

All top end "bolt ons". Cam swap, cylinder heads, valve train, intake. Nothing crazy, nothing bottom end at all. Shifting normal going down the road, 2nd to 3rd at approximately 2500 rpm (4:10 gears). I talked to a lot of people, all told me it was a losing effort because my engine was "modified" regardless of what the filter looked like. I've never seen anything like it TBH.

Just have to ask this quick question: Is your "2020 Ford F150 3.5 EcoBoost" one of these new engines that have totally ungodly excessively high oil pressure on occasion? -like maybe on initial cold start, and/or when the turbo is at high boost?

I really don't know, I'll have to research it. I know normal idle pressure is around 20-25 psi and operating pressure at 40-45 psi.

After a slight detour, back on track with the WIX XP filter thread. My guy does have 57045-XP in stock vs the 57502-XP that my truck calls for. Only difference is the 57045 is about 3/4" longer and bypass is 12-15 vs 22 for the 57502. I'm actually thinking about going this route🤷‍♂️ Here's specs on both.

You said these filters are for a 2020 Ford F150 3.5 EcoBoost. I'll tell you that if you use an aftermarket filter that is not specified for your truck, and something happens due to a filter problem you will be totally on your own - ie, zero warranty coverage from Ford or WIX. Stick with the filter that WIX specifies.

You wouldn't have, but I think the agenda had to do with bashing Fram instead. So expect some resistance.
Fram was never mentioned by me until someone suggested it and I explained why I don't use them anymore, don't know how that's "bashing" 🤷‍♂️

Good thinking.

Friendly reminder below...

Maybe you should scroll back up to post #12 and read the comment suggesting a Fram filter...... glad you found my response as to why I choose to not use a Fram 🤦‍♂️ Just in case you can't find it and need a reminder.....
