You need a router not adapter . Are you able to update the software on existing router in case it has known issues locking up?

Haven’t seen any updates. Yeah I get it now that a switch to the modem will likely only work with the first thing plugged in.
Ok, looked and there was one last month but I don’t see it when I log into the utilities. I’ve done firmware updates and it’s usually right there at the top. I think the manual download needs a PC.

Buy a new router OR a wireless adapter to Ethernet (total pain).

get a new wireless router with 4 ports. reading into this router model it seems to be a budget minded model with slow/limited firmware updates etc...
fiber into Port labeled Internet/Wan.. VOIP box and tv's into the LAN Ports.
if you want to try a last ditch effort.. perform a factory reset and reconfigure the router.

^^^^Do this unless you want to keep wasting your time over and over again with the Netgear. Here is a stable solution for $70 (maybe less during Black Friday sales): TP Link AX1800 (and don't worry about the overblown hype about China spying on your elderly parents).

is Netgear a bad product?
I can't really say since I haven't had one for nearly 20 years, but a few co-workers have had issues with their Netgear routers in the past ~5 years. Mostly recurring problems that required frequent rebooting to resolve (temporarily).

alright, I am currently using the Netgear Nighthawk RS100 and haven't had any issues for my home network. for my garage network using an older Linksys router also with no issues.
I 2nd this but had horrid luck and time wasting with past TP Link products I threw away 3 highly rated routers. Purchased a mesh albeit Google and never an issue.
I've had an issue with most popular consumer brand models that I won't touch them anymore, but the Netgear ac2600 I've had at the office as a backup has been pretty solid for the past.....7 years or so with minimal maintenance. I've had and seen issues with Asus models with bad firmware and poor acceptance of different brand APs.
