This product works well if:
1. You don't use too much.
2. You rub it in WELL and thoroughly.

You may need latex/nytryl/etc. gloves to seal in moisture while working outdoors.

I used this before I discovered the O'Keefe's

The o'keefee's is better IMO.

Steroids make my fingers' skin crack open along their fingerprint grooves and Bag Balm heals/seals them up in a few days to a week....great stuff....

...and for you dog owners...another use is for dogs' pads that harden/crack in winter....

I've had OCD for a long time, with frequent hand washing. Over the years, I've tried many different lotions. My favorite is gold bond ultimate healing lotion, hands down the best. I put it on my hands before I go to bed at night, and sometimes during the day as needed, especially in late winter when my hands are the worst.

With that said, the best thing you can do is use different hand soap if possible, unless you wash your hands a lot at work or something. "Castile" soaps are best, anything with a coconut or olive oil as one of the first ingredients. Usually you'll have to look in the natural section for these soaps, dr bronners is one example. They're a little more money, but not too bad if you buy one of the bigger refill size bottles. It's well worth the money in my opinion, if dry/cracking skin really is a big issue. I just want to reiterate this because of how important this is, switching soap should make a massive difference, since I assume you probably don't currently use a Castile liquid soap.

*One more thing after looking at the earlier replies. Eucerin intensive repair is my second favorite lotion. As Virtus said though it's pretty sticky stuff, so I would only use that before bed.

I've had to deal with a skin thickening condition over the years, early on it caused a lot of cracking and discomfort on my hands.

I use a shot of this in the morning:

It use to be by prescription, now it's over-the-counter.

Through the day I'll use this:

It's very thick, like a white paste, but works well.

This is what I used when working maintenance through the years. Clone of a brand name but I can't remember which one. $2

We have pretty cold winters and I spend much time outside and wear gloves for protection. Cold wind is murder on skin. After washing my hands with glycerin handsoap, I use Neutrogena Foot Cream on my hands. I also don't let humidity drop below 45% in my home.

Bought the Working Hands stuff and so far so good. Had a fingerprint groove split on left index finger that has heeled since I started using the WH few days ago.
