Will the 2007 Hyundai Elantra be a hit?

I went off topic and I am sorry to disturb the course of this thread. Hopefully what I posted was not perceived as anti-domestic bias as I like their products too.

The Mazda3 is a run away hit.
The reasons it doesn't approach the Corollas or Civics sales numbers is because Mazda doesn't have capacity to increase production ten fold within a short period of time.
Mazda3's are flying of the dealers lot.
It would take years for Mazda in order to dramatically increase its production capacity.
Mazda3 is a much better car than the Corolla in almost every way, and very competetive with the new Civic and beats it handily in the fun-to-drive department.

Critic,

Sorry for the delay. We love our Elantra. it's a 2003, so it doesn't have the VVT engine, so i don't know how it compares to the newer Elantra engines, but compared to the performance of similar cars, we are very satisfied with the Elantra. it certainly has decent accelaration and power, and pretty quick for a 4-banger. the ride quality/comfort of interior exceeds expectations usually set for an econo car. But most of all: it has been absolutely wonderful in dependablity and fuel economy, and the standard equipment list is long, with side air bags. It now has 52k miles. I like the 2003 style more than the later style, however.

we're 100% satisfied with our decision on the Elantra. recommended.

It's making a dent here! The Mazda3 is the #2 selling car in Canada behind the Civic, and it's not far behind. We are a pretty small market though.

OK, help me out here. Which Mitsubishi V6 has heads with DOHC and CVVT, as well as a diecast aluminum cylinder block? What's the relationship between Mazda and KIA you implied - especially since Hyundai bought KIA lock, stock, and barrel six years ago?...

Kia used to use Mazda engines (and chassis). That switched to Mitsu when Hyundai bought them.
The Kia Sephia used a cheapo version of the Miata BP engine (no oil squirters?).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kia_Sephia
The Sephia became the Spectra and is now on a Mitsu chassis.

I think the Rio used to use a Mazda (Protege) chassis and 1.6L (B or Z-series?) engine.

How about a 6G74 Mitsu engine? dohc and MIVEC
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitsubishi_6G7x_engine#6G74
It doesn't have to be a current Mitsu engine...
I'm guessing Hyundai manufactured, but Mitsu (or GEMA) designed.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_Engine_Manufacturing_Alliance

I haven't read anything about Hyundai designing engines, but I could be wrong.
I don't read up on Hyundia's much so maybe they're doing their own thing now?

To me Hyundai is the copycat of the auto business, from names to design.
And yes, the chinese are good at it too...

Regarding the Mazda3 trannies. iirc, the manual is a Mazda tranny or the Ford MTX75 (ala Ford Focus), but I'm leaning towards Mazda G-type...
Auto tranny might be made by Aisin?
If you (or a family member) own a Mazda you can get a deal on a new one (and cheap parts) thru their Motorsports program.

KR, this discussion is pointless. If you can't see the similarity without making a list but just by looking at the pictures, then you can't see it.

BTW, I like the interior of the new Elantra. There are very few cars in that segment with nicely done interiors.

People gotta learn to stop picking on Korean cars. The Amanti looks nothing alike. People only pick on Korean cars, because they're Korean. but nobody picks on the Japanese for using German idea's. How sad.

The Rio and the new Spectra are totally Hyundai designs. All rios came with Hyundai's 1.6l Beta engine. Hyundai is no copy cat in the Auto business and comparing them to the Chinese is very insulting. I think you should wash your mouth with soap. I think you're pretty much brain washed from watching too much M*A*S*H..

The World Alliance engine chief designer is Hyundai. Then the other companies modified it to their specs.

ROFL!!! You need to lay off your nationalistic bong. People pick on a lot of things, not just Korean stuff. A lot of people on this board pick on American designs. The whole idea behind a forum is exchange views and to pick or complain about something. Deal with it. Personally, I'd be the first to point out that the new Jetta looks like a Corolla from the back. If you want to talk about Japanese copying Germans, you're free to start another thread. Be sure to include some examples.

How do you know I'm being nationalistic? America is the only country I care about. Hmm.. must be because I look Asian.

And now that I dug up that old thread, I suddenly remembered that we've already had this discussion before, and you ran crying to the moderators that it was "Hyundai bashing".

Why the heck do people have to turn EVERY thread I start recently into either a US vs. Import or racism thread.

Jeez...
