Bought my wife a 2011 X5M. It had a valve cover leak...got that fixed, gave wife the keys. So today after some shopping she tells me she got a ticket for going 92 in a 70. I think I'm already regretting buying this car, as her daily driver was a Honda Pilot. She tells me it's to fast, I told her, it has a speedo like any other car.....????????

Valentine One. It can be hard to tell you are speeding in a vehicle like that because it just doesn't feel like it. Knock on wood, I have only had one speeding ticket in my years of driving. I totally deserved it.

A lot of vehicles are like that. I swear 80 feels smoother than 50 in my truck. Can't feel a difference other than more turbo boost. lol

That would be punishing me:)

I think I'm going to make her drive my Dodge for a while...she hates my truck because it's on 37s and it's a diesel and it smokes and it rides like [censored] per her exact words...+ I've got a program I use for emmisions that gives my truck about 250hp lol

It might take a bit but she'll get faster at noticing the speedo....but question is how much money it will cost in the meantime.

It'll take some time for her to get used to it, if she was previously driving a Honda Pilot. Hopefully sooner than later for her Drivers License, and your insurance rates..

Hard to cure the heavy foot problem. In the end no excuse works and your wallet is a lot lighter.

Tell her every ticket and insurance rate hike comes out of her personal shopping budget if only you work or, if she works too, then tell her the cost is on her and her alone but you expect her to still contribute the same amount to the household. Heck, if she doesn't work tell her it is time to start so she can pay for her tickets and insurance and if she won't then take the keys away and get her a pedal bike.

May sound like I am being sarcastic or a tool bag but seriously, just think, what happens if she hits someone or loses control at that speed? Can you imagine the nightmare you and she would be in( if she lived )? That kind of speeding is reckless and dangerous and needs to be nipped in the bud pronto. She is a grown woman so the excuse of "I didn't realize I was going so fast" just doesn't cut it.

NOTE - just to be clear my post is not anti woman driver. I know darn well even though I said nothing of the kind someone here will go there and try and put those words into my mouth. So, to be clear, I would say the same things if the husband(OP) had been speeding and got caught. I have equal disdain and lack of use for anyone who speeds( and especially when they are doing it so egregiously @ 90+ )regardless of gender, race, etc...

Lol. You are a tool.

She got popped for 92 in a 70, whoop de freaking doo. Traffic flow was probably at 80-85.

^ this.
it's funny how so many women always blame someone else( or in this case, someTHING else)for their screw-ups in life.imagine -- I got a ticket, because the car is too fast. a lot of guys call this woman's logic. it's hilarious.
OP -- I'm surprised that she didn't blame you. after all, YOU bought the car.
bitog never fails to provide a good laugh.

as well, there's no sense putting signage on the gauges. she will be too busy looking around the stuffed animals on the top of the instrument panel.

It's a single speeding ticket, in a car meant to safely go that fast. Coming from a car where 90 probably felt a lot faster, it's possible that they got caught out by how effortlessly a German performance vehicle will do high speeds.

If it happens a second time in short order, then a different approach is needed.

Wisdom. For an intelligent person, something bad happening once will incite them to make a change.

This. Back in 2001 I covered the introduction of the first hot-rodded X5- the 4.6is. While it is dead slow by today's standards(0-60 in 6.5 seconds, 1/4-mile in 15.1 seconds) it was a deceptively fast cruiser. I had a press loaner for ten days and if I didn't set the cruise control on the open road I'd find myself going 100 mph or more without realizing it.

Your posts stands out among others in the same mode.
One's wife is one's equal, not a child nor a subordinate.
Based upon what I've read in this thread, there appear to be a number of middle-aged divorced guys as well as some with dysfunctional marriages.
My wife's gotten speeding tickets as have I.
No big deal.
Some cars are just easily worked up to illegal speeds.
In fact, most modern cars including the four cylinder CVT appliances will hit speeds in the nineties pretty easily and will be quiet and track well at those speeds.
Absent speed limiters, there aren't too many modern cars that won't get into the young hundreds at least and they'll feel secure doing it.
Even the cheapest modern cars have plenty good brakes as well, so no danger to any other road user.
