Help her fight the ticket! Speeding tickets are just a revenue source. They don't make the roads any safer.

She is a grown woman so the excuse of "I didn't realize I was going so fast" just doesn't cut it.

It's his wife, not his 16 year old daughter.

The replies are too funny. If got a ticket going that fast my wife would have jumped my [censored] quick...anyway I think she can do traffic school, at least I hope.

To give her some credit, that car is incredibly fast for its size, 100mph does feel like 50...I do think it's cool she's driving a 555hp SUV...

On a side note, I noticed it smoking really bad...opened the hood and found the valve covers leaking oil again...I think the valve covers are warped....more $$$$$-

HA HA. I agree. we've got a highway down here that has an 85mph speed limit. The last few times I used that highway the traffic was truckin down the road at almost 100. I passed a cop sitting on the side of the road at 103 and he didn't move.

Years ago my Mom drove a Camaro with a six cyl, I would see her driving 60 in the slow lane . When she bought her Accura Legend, I would see her fly by in the fast lane.

Hey let's do away with speed limits altogether. I mean everyone is a formula one racer right? Capable of handling a car at 90-100 MPH with ease. Let everyone do whatever they want.

Sorry guys. 92 MPH in a 70 zone is a BIG deal. That is 22 MPH over the speed limit. Here in NH a 1st offense of that kind( i.e. 70 zone going 21+ over )would be a $496 fine and a whole bunch of points on your license not to mention a big insurance rate hike. It is also unsafe.

An open deserted rode in Texas w/ an 85 limit is irrelevant to this case. The limit was 70. 92 is too fast period. And for the record that cop should have nailed you for that 103.

How long does it take for you to climb up on that high horse?

I hope you keep your slow-mobile in the right lane.

And your point? Being married her actions impact her husband, the OP. What happens to her can lead to problems for him. So it behooves him to step up and address this with her right away and make it clear that she needs to pay attention and slow down. Excuses like she didn't know she was going that fast do not cut it. If she truly can't gauge the speed then sue the cruise.

It amazes me the way the married men on this site are so afraid of their wives AND how any kind of negative comment about the wife's excuses means the poster is anti woman. Every year we have this exact thread. My Wife Got A Ticket is usually the title too. Makes me laugh. The OP is dead on when he says if HE was the one who had done this his wife would have been all over him. But some of us suggest he get on her for doing it and oh no that isn't right. People here make me laugh.

And I hope you and the rest of the BITOG lead foots don't kill someone while speeding.

One's wife is one's equal, not a child nor a subordinate.
Based upon what I've read in this thread, there appear to be a number of middle-aged divorced guys as well as some with dysfunctional marriages.
My wife's gotten speeding tickets as have I.
No big deal.
Some cars are just easily worked up to illegal speeds.
In fact, most modern cars including the four cylinder CVT appliances will hit speeds in the nineties pretty easily and will be quiet and track well at those speeds.
Absent speed limiters, there aren't too many modern cars that won't get into the young hundreds at least and they'll feel secure doing it.
Even the cheapest modern cars have plenty good brakes as well, so no danger to any other road user.

There's a lot more to traveling at high speeds that "good brakes". Some understanding of vehicle dynamics is in order.

555 hp? I think I found your problem. lol. I can't imagine 555 hp. 200 hp can move a vehicle with authority, so another 355 hp over that is incredible.

Something to consider:

The X5 M is capable of a 12,5 ¼ mile time, and laps the Nordscheife in a VERY similar time to a comparable-year M3.

The car (SUV?) is an absolute riot.

That's the built-in smoke-screen evasion tool...

But seriously, lots of people get carried away tightening valve cover bolts. They can crack the valve covers, and/or strip the threads in the cylinder head. I don't recall the torque specs off the top of my head, but invariably the specs are not very high. If there are stripped threads in the cylinder head(s), I would recommend a Time-Sert insert kit.

Reality is in our locale 22 mph over it southern NH and Boston area of MA is a ticket and generally risky given congestion. Your vehicle type and driving skill is irrelevant especially with unpredictable drivers who don't use turn signals.

In NC outside the congestion it likely does not matter just like lots of US.

The BMW badge likely led to being pulled over.

A few years ago I sampled an X6M at a BMW ride and drive event; a guy behind me in an E92 M3 had an extremely hard time catching up with me.
These days I don't consider anything that runs much over 13 seconds in the quarter-mile to be legitimately fast- so the X5M definitely qualifies as quick.
