I've come to like the CVT Forester and it is capable of getting the job done when required.
Redline is there for a reason. Use it as needed with any kind of tranny.

Yugo was also doing job. Basically any car is doing its job, it goes from point A to point B. Question is how is doing it?
I drove numerous cars with CVT, including Subaru, and my take that experience is similar to one when you laying on the couch and steering at the ceiling because you are just that bored.

The reality is that in 5 years CVT's will be the norm.
"The main plus to the CVT transmission is its simplicity. An automatic transmission contains thousands of parts that are precision assembled and operate on very tight tolerances with each other, raising manufacturing costs and making repair or overhaul expensive. The CVT has far fewer parts in comparison, which can be passed along to consumers in the car's final sticker price."

And guess what..Honda's entire carline of automatics is all CVT and yea..lowly Subaru...fastest growing car company since 2008. I believe every year. You need to get out more

Of course, Subaru is in business to make money. I agree, it tells more about apathetic drivers then Subaru. Subaru was making before fun cars. I would sign up now for Outback that resembles one 15 years ago. What they are making now is an insult to anyone who considered driving anything more then going from point A to point B. But it works, I guess.

I love the older Outbacks and the old Legends. They would go forever and then some with minimal repairs.

What's an actual vehicle?
Maybe Subaru can teach BMW and VW how to make a good AWD system along with a good CVT since both seem unable to come up with either?
The pretensions of those who pay a premium for a German badge do grow tiresome.

In the outback forum I find there's more than a few guys that had the german brands and moved to Subaru just to have an AWD car that works, without a lot of cost, repair drama, and lights on the dash. I was coming back from a cottage today and was actually having a bit of fun with the Outback, it rotates on gravel quite nicely and you can feel what the vehicle slip angle is and what the fronts are doing, even through the light steering. Big bumps and pot holes are soaked up pretty well too even at maximum cornering and I have yet to bottom it out.

Sorry, what's wrong with xDrive and Quattro/4Motion?

And why would they want a "good" CVT? Is there such a thing? lol

If you want to step up (from an X5/Tiguan) dinosaur in performance and driving experience in ANY weather try driving a new Subaru Foester 2.0T with TRUE AWD...lol

My aunt called me this morning from Ottawa. Sounds like her CVT just gave up the ghost. I told her not to buy the Nissan Juke when she was considering it, and especially not used.
It has just over 150,000km on it and it has failed. She is having it towed to her mechanic. I told her to have the fluid changed immediately as preventative maintenance which she didn't listen, I event offered to put Amsoil CVT in it when she was here visiting.

She said that she thought something was wrong because the vehicle felt sluggish for the past couple of weeks.

Just wanted to mention it here. The vehicle is a 2015. I would imagine she will just end up getting another vehicle because she doesn't have the kind of money available to replace the transmission.

Did she buy it used? Big mistake. And yea not changing fluid. So she can afford to buy another vehicle but can't afford to get a tranny fixed?? CVT's have way fewer moving parts than conventional autos ..they can be fixed.

Yes she bought it used against my advice. The fluid was original. She can afford the payments of a new vehicle but can't afford to come up with the $6K for a new transmission all at once. Especially because she has a balance owing on the used vehicle. She is really in a pickle now. If the steel belt let go then it threw teeth all over the place in this CVT. Good luck rebuilding it.

LOL, know I dig out from ditch Subaru Outback with VW CC that was front wheel drive.
As for BMW, that thing will run over that Forester. Just for your info, BMW xDrive is actually rooted in Land Rover, but I know you knew that

As for performance, I got my laugh today.
