Why haven't gas prices gone down?

Us too. I saw a sign today at a SHELL station listed @ $2.35 for regular. It has been dropping around us for months a few cents at a time. Of course the fact that we have 3-4 refineries within 100miles may have something to do with it. ?
Houston has some Valero stations shown under $2 (gas buddy) …

Some years back Valero started investing in a large and older , outdated refinery near me. They eventually took complete ownership and they have about tripled the size and output of the place. Also brought a lot of great paying jobs to the area in permanent and contractor jobs. They seem to be constantly enlarging and upgrading the place. They keep it super clean also.

They seem like a solid company …

Well, at this time of year, because it's Christmas and people will be traveling. Same as most holidays.
Of course, oil companies can easily justify supply and demand.
I saw pretty large increases during my travels this morning.

Let's also not forget the recent political climate.

$1.99 at Buc ees in Johnstown, Colorado on Saturday. Premium was $2.33 a gallon.

For comparison, in high school in 1980, I was paying $1.10 USD per gallon, and only paying that low price because of a new gas station trying to attract customers.

When compared to the price of housing, food, insurance, etc ... Unleaded gas seems to be the inflation crusher at this moment.

I looked at AAA fuel prices to say and interesting at the price differences...

I drove from NY to Myrtle Beach SC on Sunday (December 21st) and the Exxon station on Route 17 was $2.289 a gallon….the next morning it was $2.599 a gallon…a 31 cents a gallon jump overnight? Other stations had similar jumps but Murphy’s (Walmart) stayed at $2.28 so I filled up there despite it not being TT. I noticed these large up and down price swings the last time I was here last summer. I wonder why this seems to be the norm here?

It’s around $2.59/gal at my local Shell. I use the Shell app & S-pay along with Platinum status, I pay $2.44/gal. Every 4th fill up I get an extra $.10/gal that I save for the wife’s GL450 which requires premium.
