Why haven't gas prices gone down?

I was absolutely shocked to fill up yesterday @ $2.39 for regular at a local SHELL station. Shocked because it is owned and operated by the greediest family here who everyone knows about. They usually charge .15 to .25 cents more than all the other SHELL stations.
They inherited this large distribution business deal their grandfather inked out with SHELL in the 1940s with the local refinery.

You would think being so lucky or blessed for the lavish living they have fell into they would cut their neighbors and (some? I guess) friends some slack.... NOT.

You’ve always got the choice to shop elsewhere for sure. I wouldn’t patronize a business whose owners are known for price gouging if it was me. I don’t know how far away the other ones are, so I don’t want to make an assumption about it being distance based.

Edit: Autocorrect added an unnecessary word and made my statement odd. I’ve corrected it.

2.22 for Getgo near me with advantage pay
.. they are now Top Tier
Also redeemed "my perks" points and you get 50% more value for redeeming on 30gal gas so
was $44 in perks for 30 gallons. ;)

(which I got from buying $400 in visa GC and paid car insurance with..

so about $16 in visa GC fees for 30 gallons of gas

I play the points and rewards game pretty deep :ROFLMAO:

Well played!!! 👏 👏 👏

I thought I was good with my Shell Rewards/App/S-Pay skills! It would seem I have much to learn 🤣

Production and exploration restrictions have been lifted, and OPEC has actually increased production, and yet gas prices remain high? Why?
Sneaky state and federal gasoline taxes keep it high. Especially California, PA, Michigan and others. They are constantly raising them and the roads never get better. I think the turnpikes in PA are nice, but you have to pay tolls.

AND, Washington state has just won the high price crown, beating California!
Around 70 cents per gallon is taxes in Washington State according to a quick search. What are they doing with all that money? Wasting it probably. And it says there's a cap-and-trade program in Washington State...that's lovely. Also says the tax is set to increase 2 cents per year.

Why would they go down? Gas station owners need to eat, too.

Roughly $3/gal I think is the lowest it'll ever go going forward. Besides, $3 is a nice round number and people like nice round numbers. Anything less is 'cheap' and anything more is 'expensive'.

$4/gal will be normalized someday.
It's supply and demand. When you throttle supply and production, over-regulate, rely on foreign enemies for oil, shut down drilling on federal land, close refineries, etc, prices go up. There's been a war on oil for the last 4 years if you haven't noticed. Cars were gonna run on windmills. Now it's drill baby drill. But you still have States that put taxes on, and the fact that you just can't flip a switch and make more gas... it takes time to get it rolling. Gas prices are coming down quite fast actually, considering. I bet you see under $1 gas in some places in a year or two or 3.
