Why are SAE sockets formatted in fractions?

right, and the infinite 3s behind that......out of 1.

If you say so.
I seems it has been said. And some would agree.

Funny thing:
If you were to stop and ask 1000 people what color the sky is, 1000 would give you the wrong answer, and it would all be blue. And yet the consensus would be blue. Mass hysteria.

That's why the 1/3 pounder failed. Average bear is dimwitted.
Also ... "Hey, but isn't 4 bigger than 3"? 😄

I'm pretty sure it was a lot closer to the introduction of the television than it was the 80's.
I base my views on experiencing curricula in the US and the UK. I have seen how teaching and academics have changed and how the standards have been lowered so that a large percentage of the US population is now functionally illiterate. They can read a MacDonald's menu and write inarticulate blurbs on social media and they may be specialized idiots in a very limited field. A lady in her 40s failed to count my change back to me. When I asked if she knew how that's done she admitted she did not know. Professional cashier. My fault for paying with cash, I suppose.

Some of you may remember the point (breaker) ignition systems which came before the electronic and ECU engine-controlled spark systems.

I still have a set of what they called "ignition" system wrenches, and they are mostly in 32nd" fractions.

Brawndo will be on the menu board sooner than expected. 🙃

Not to hijack the thread, but has anyone come across the need for these in the real world? (Torx +).

Ford bed bolts. Some seat tracks, too

Couldn't survive without TP

edit: it really seems a smarter design than standard Torx. Personally I think T should be deleted in favor of TP. The radiused points are less brittle and thus less subject to damage (primarily on the bit itself)
