Who’s making the best 5w30 these days?

That's because you didn't buy the Annie Oakley Mobil 1 Extended Performance Triple Action 5w/10w30.
In your climate I'd say 10w summer and 5w winter.
Soon as they have a killer blend they change it. Started with Mobil 1 R4T, next Mobil 1 10w30 HM, the 0W20 EP and recently a fav around here Mobil 1 0W40 FS. Bean counters in for the Loss! I am done.

You don't really want a 5W30 do you? 10w30 for the win buddy.

Also, no mention of spec.

A few guys here would say Mobil 1 ESP - the Euro spec stuff. Amsoil ATM was a killer back in the day.

I just tried pain jane Mobil 1 5W30 after decade of swearing the stuff off as ho-hum or worse, and over hyped as "best". And I still do not like it in my ford - funny thing as the base blend and DP must be worlds different from the last time used it. IDK.
AMSOIL Signature Series 10w30 still is. Noack of 4.1%. It's actually better now than it was.

I’d like to do some street legal drags with the kiddo and some track days over at VIR. I’ll go out and do some spirited driving once in a while on there back roads around here but try to keep it sane when I’m sharing with the rest of the public.

I do potentially intend to strap an LSA to this thing eventually but that’s a ways off.
Euro 5W30, like Mobil 1 ESP 5W30, Castrol Edge 5W30 A3 (Wal mart available).
You could go to Mobil 1 0W40 FS, which Mobil 1 positions as entry track oil.

The engine only puts out 67 HP per liter in stock form. A base Camry puts out 83 HP per liter using 0W16 and can go for 250K plus miles. Don't overthink the oil.
That is completely apples to oranges... You're ignoring things like journal sizes, operating temps, possible coatings like DLC...

What don't you like about it?

Just purchased a 2017 Chevy SS sedan with the LS3. It’s got low mileage and I’d like to keep the engine happy as long as possible. I drive so little mileage wise I’m looking at yearly oil changes just to keep things fresh, so cost isn’t really an issue. Who should I be looking at?

Cheers,
Nathan
I have 106,000 miles on my 2016 Chevy SS Sport Sedan bought new. The LS3 was designed and in service years before “Dexos” was a thing….So I run Mobil 1 FS Euro 0W-40 in my SS. Be a rebel and run an oil good for cold starts and track days.

Mobil 1 was good enough from the factory and still is

This right here is top-quality, just look at the checkered flag on the bottle.

And, if you're as fortunate as we are here in Texas, there's a store that sells it on just about every street corner.

Just don't use it as fry oil when frying your turkey. Cheers and happy Thanksgiving.
