My wife has stomach pains a lot. She can drinka very little bit of O.J. and she says that her stomach feels like it's on fire. This happens all the time. She can't really drink coffee, especially on an empty stomach. She's already had the endoscope to the stomach and even went to a gastroenterologist and they didn't find anything. I told her to try Digestive Advantage, which didn't really help. The one that did somewhat help is Bacillus Coagulans from Swanson. Now, my question is, is there anything else possibly better than this one? Thanks

There is a probiotic blend available by the name of PB-8. It is available at The Vitamin Shoppe, Amazon, and other online retailers. Based on personal experience, it is very good.

I found it when I was on IV and oral antibiotics for close to 4 years due to a persistent bone infection. The PB-8 kept me from getting C. Diff and allowed me function fairly normally. My gastroenterologist was amazed that I wasn't having major GI problems based on the antibiotics I was on.

Hopefully it will help your wife, and good luck to her!!!

I've been living with ulcerative colitis for almost 10 years now so maybe my experience can help.

Is it actually her stomach that burns? Or just the general region?

Any history of acid reflux, GERD, ulcers?

Initially, I don't think a prebiotic or probiotic is going to help. These have a bigger impact on the small and large intestines and bowel movements... relating to stool consistency, gas, bloating, etc.

Could be IBS which is a catch-all for "dunno".

By all means experiment with diet--keep a log and see if anything can be tracked. But for me, the doc tried out Librax and that seemed to make inroads for me. For a long time I thought it was heartburn but in reality I believe it was a spastic colon--it just had different sensations of pain.

But that's just a shot in the dark. For me, it was never altered by heartburn medication, which should have been a clue that it wasn't that.

IBS is another way of saying undiagnosed allergies, all the drugs in the world don’t solve it just cover up symptoms which get worse if you ignore the allergy take the drug and use antacid.

I have had issues for years, your wife may have ulcers from anti acid use (as strange as that may sound)

The only thing that worked for me was to go on a strict meat and green vegetables diet,
I fast on MCT oil sometimes and really can’t have dairy, wheat or grain, or excessive amounts of sugar/starch.
Some people can’t have nuts or peanut butter which sucks, those don’t appear to affect me.

I take apple cider vinegar, goat kefir and otherwise eat a spartan diet but I do fall off the wagon then have to repeat the process as the symptoms return.

In her case, I would recommend she just bite the bullet, drink plain water for a day no food, feel terrible then take about 4 lysine tablets end of day, continue taking 1-2 lysine tablets (well forever, rebuilds stomach) MSM is usually help, DGL may help or may not.
On day 2 for breakfast drink a pea protein smoothie (no sweeteners or additives) and take some fish oil, then start adding chicken/fish, green veggies and no commercial sauces and see what happens.

I’ve had a rotted gut since I was 9 everyone is different but it’s almost always the same triggers.

Sorry I don’t have better news

All probiotics work in he gut and not the stomach, your wife probably has an excessive amount of acid in it, she probably needs something to mitigate this symptom I'd ask a pharmacist.

But continue with doctors. They have the training.

Some do some don’t, in my case I was very sickly as a child, doctor recommended I drink more milk, it didn’t turn out so well.

My uncle had a sour stomach had a poor diet, doctor gave him ant acids, he went 5 years then had major trouble and found out he developed crohns, which resulted in more drugs, 2 year later he bled out and almost died , doc recommended he have sections of his large and small intestines removed.

Doc said he couldn’t heal intestinal ulcers

He refused and went on a strict diet, then found another doctor, he healed up but if he eats or is exposed to any gluten he usually goes into a flare up, he has gone back on some meds to cover him if he accidentally is exposed to things he can’t eat but still follows a strict diet.

The average doctor has under a month of health and nutritional training, finding one that knows what they are doing can be much harder than you would think

Just reading through the comments seems there is some confusion about calling it probiotics or prebiotics.

Probiotics are the beneficial bacteria that you want to colonize your gut.

Prebiotics is the food you need to eat to help the probiotics stay alive.

I don't think neither will help in this situation.

To clarify again, the poster above meant Zantac. Zyrtec is a antihistamine product.

I have had great experience with Jarrow Formulas. They are a top notch company in the the supplement sector. They produce a number of probiotic supplements.

I couldn't drink OJ and if I have too much coffee or something with Tomato sauce in it I would get wicked stomach acid, burning in my stomach and splashing in my throat. I tried this/that and nothing seemed to work until I started taking Apple Cider Vinegar tablets 2 in the morning (get it on Amazon) with a glass of water and nothing to eat/drink for an hour and then I would supplement with a high quality Magnesium sometime with dinner. The combination fixed it for me. I can get by with a couple days not taking this and the problem will return.

I also found that at times where I just had something too spicy and my stomach acid problem would reappear that 1/2 a cup of Almond milk would dissipate it in a hurry. Why I'm not sure but it works.

Hope that helps.

Raw sauerkraut. Not the canned stuff at the grocery store. Bubbies is a good brand. Loaded with probiotics, but like a previous poster, not sure if that's the issue. But cabbage itself is well known for treating ulcers and other gastro issues.

If she likes it, chow down!

To OP,

The information you have provided is not enough to figure out what possibly she may be facing. I can give you pointers, but can't guarantee success. I have Ulcerative colitis since 2008, have been to the [censored] and back. Learned a lot on the way back from the [censored] when the GI's (gastroenterologist) suggestion was to start Remicade. 2+ years of trial and error and now I am in remission since 2013, without Remicade and TON of prebiotics, only one probiotic.

First, where does it hurt EXACTLY, around the stomach region or intestine region? The reason I ask, many times where it hurts is not where the problem is, called as referred pain. My pain used to be always below the navel on the ventral side whereas the problem was/is on the dorsal side.
What did the GI test? Did they do a scope (tops down/bottoms up)? Did they take biopsies? Any results of it. Did they test for H. pylori? What did the GI ask to address the problem?
What is the diet like? If its SAD loaded with meat, will have tough going. I quit all meat and became a herbivore. A lot of reasons are classified as crackpot/conspiracy by the mainstream media and the medicine but I am convinced now that meat contributed to my health issues.

Trying PPI or H2 blocker will help temporarily but that is not a good idea (even though the GI will tell you to use it far longer than the package insert will tell you to). Plus, if your DW is perimenopausal, effects on her bones may end up trouble in future.

To begin with, you can try 4-5oz of raw cabbage juice (preferably using masticating juicer, not centrifugal juicer) first thing in the morning. Skip the coffee (sorry) and all heavy meals, stick to dressing-free salads as much as she can for few days. If it helps, then possibly the issue is with the stomach, heartburn. If H. pylori is not tested, should be tested.

If that doesn't help then further investigation is needed.
(I am assuming there is no history of constipation.)
