Who changed the site format?

The left column "Recent Topics" looks the same for me using my desktop (Firefox or Google Chrome browsers). It lists all the new threads, regardless of what forum they are in.

It's strange how many people aren't seeing the same thing, but obviously it will depend on desktop vs cell phone viewing. Might also depend on some of the settings in you profile "Preferences".

He was talking about "Active Topics" which is different from "Recent Topics".

Isn't there an "Active Threads" button on the top row?

There is, but apparently the way it shows information has changed after the forum upgrade.

I never use it, so I don't know exactly how it changed.

Got ya ... as far as "Active Topics" for me they show up at the top of each forum, and have a bold title and show how many new posts are in the thread by showing a red number in parentheses by the number of reply in the thread. Looks to be working the same to me as it did with the old system. See snap-shot below ... the bold titles are active topics that have new posts.

Those are not "Active Topics". Those are just topics that have new replies in them.

Click the "Active Threads" button at the top of the page.

I think they are doing an excellent job, it takes a lot of work to run a site like this and during an update things can get tricky and WordPress can be pain some times.

Sayjac - are you talking about on a desktop or on a cell phone? All the space and layout looks the same to me on both devices...
I view almost entirely from a desktop (have no smart phone) and my comparison was/is to the previous format before the change made. I haven't messed with any settings, just whatever the default view is from what I was using is what I was referencing.

Just saw where edhackett said " BITOG Red Gray schemes have much more wasted space that creates more scrolling on a desktop." That must be what I have now and thus the space. When I get a chance I'll look for UBB Central and/or Bitog dark.

Ok, see what you're talking about. I never used the "Active Topics" feature ... too busy for me. I just go to the forums I like and all the new fresh threads are at the top in bold with the new post count in red parenthesis. Easy peasy.

Yeah, could be why. I'm using the Zen color scheme and all the stuff on the screen seems to be using the best of my monitor space like before with the old system.

Put your phone in "Desktop site" mode if it has that feature.

When I go on BITOG with my phone I can't see the left side column with the most recent new posts. I went into preferences and it is marked to "show the left column". If anyone knows how to fix that I appreciate the help.

It'll only show the left column on a tablet or a desktop.

Not enough room with a mobile version, unless you want the columns for the PCMO, Tires, and Mechanical etc forums be 1" wide.

Some phones allow you to use a "Desktop site" mode ... which will make it show up on your cell phone like it does on a desktop. At least my LG Android has that option.
