Who changed the site format?

Picture posting now is horrible. I can't get it to work no matter what I do. That whole link thing is useless. It used to be effortless. You didn't even need a hosting site. You could post images right from your, "My Pictures" folder. Not any more. Something else that was working too well, so it had to be made worse by, "improving it".

Works fine for me...easier than before...just not in the same place - look below the reply box, use the picture uploader...the preview is wonky, doesn't show the picture location...by the way, I'm resurrecting an old computer and this old picture is all I had...

Click "Use Full Editor", and then scroll down to "Picture Uploader."

OK I see the "Picture Uploader". I attached the file, but I can't get it to show in the preview of the post. (It shows "total files 1"). It shows the thumbnail of the photo, but that's it.

All right, now I see. It won't show the full picture in the preview. You have to post it first. Thanks!

What was causing all of my grief, was I kept trying to work with that silly, "Image Tag". (The little box in the middle of all the above icons with the picture in it). No matter what URL I tried to enter nothing happened accept aggravation. The "Picture Uploader" with the little paper clip never caught my eye until Astro told me about it. The only thing about it that will catch you off guard is it won't post the full picture until you hit, "Post Reply". "Preview Reply" will only produce the tiny thumbnail.... Sometimes.

If you want to "improve" something, allow editing with no time limit.
I dislike the format. Doesn't work any better on my iphone.

The new skins don't do anything for me. Useless change for the sake of more useless change. By the time I get used to the changes....they'll probably change it again. Why complain...it won't do any good.

Yet here you are, complaining away.

They have fixed many of the compalints, and am sure are working on others, and I am sure new ones will come up.

There were gripes about the side bar being on the right (it used to be on the left). You could turn it off if you did not want it.
It was then moved to the left, but could not be turned off. Then it was fixed so it could be turned off.

Gripes about the lack of color choices.
There are now many options for colors.

Gripes about lots of "dead" space requireing more scrolling, it has been adjusted (although I think it is a stylistic change with color choice).

Issues with pic uploads, being worked on, problems with how the uploader handles pics, hopefully will be addressed.

I am about 90% ok with the update now.

I know some are still having issues with mobile use, but I don't know since I only use desktop.

Posting photos is still pretty easy ... BUT, what I've discovered is the photos can not be placed where you want them inside your post text. They just automatically show up at the bottom of the post. Before the software upgrade, there was a link shown to the upload, and you could put that wherever you wanted inside your post - meaning placing text before and after the photo. Not so now from what I can determine.

You can place your photo where you want it, but it requires some additional gymnastics.

What's the secret? It's not like the old system, that's for sure.

What's the secret? You must be copying the link info for the photo after the initial posting, then pasting it into the post with an edit.

It's not like the old system, that's for sure. I see when I quote your post with the photos, that the link of the photo shows up. I will not do that when uploading photos.

Fwiw, personally at this point I prefer the previous format. In my observation the older format made more efficient and economical use of reading and posting space. To my eye the new format appears to include a lot of empty white space. That said, basically a guest here and I'll get used to it. Haven't tried to post a pic yet so can't speak it.

Though not exactly the same, 'slickdeals' a site I frequently read made a format change awhile back, not for the better imo. Many members wanted to keep the old format as it too seemed to make better use of space, and be more informative. One of the ways to keep or access the 'classic view' was to join the site, so that's what I did. My .02

Everyone's still complaining

Chill out, they're still working on it. It isn't a roll out once and forget about it.

Sayjac - are you talking about on a desktop or on a cell phone? All the space and layout looks the same to me on both devices.

I like the new format. It's actually more readable and mostly responsive on my iPhone 7. I think needs slight tweaks but has the basics.

Also like the pic uploader.

It depends on what color scheme you have selected. The UBBCentral and BITOG Dark schemes have much better use of space. The Ventura, Ventura Open, and BITOG Red Gray schemes have much more wasted space that creates more scrolling on a desktop.

I don't have any issues with the functionality of the new format, but there is something "off" as far as the esthetics of the new format. There's a "harshness", or "tension" on the pages, regardless of color scheme, that was not there with the previous format(desktop-laptop, BITOG Blue).
