Which Oil Drain Valve do you use? Fumuto? Valvomax?

I had a Valvomax on my wife’s 2023 Toyota Corolla. I took it off the other day after the oil stopped flowing and was disappointed with how much came out after. Admittedly I didn’t measure the amount, but it was a small stream. I reinstalled the drain plug and will remove the Valvomax from my Tundra when I change the oil in June if the same thing happens.

I just got some Votex units for my vehicles and will install on the next oil change. Looks to be a copy of the Valvomax but USA made.

Units look well made.

So I put my Crosstrek on ramps to change the oil so I can actually see the Fumoto valve vs reaching for it with car on the ground. I can get one or two fingers on the lever to open the Fumoto and open it without getting my hand covered in oil. Not easy and probably cannot do it by feeling.

So were I buying a quick oil change valve for a Subaru 2.5 engine I would either get the Fumoto valve with a nipple or the Valvomax. But not the basic Fumoto valve without a nipple.

I used a Fumoto valve on the FJ since 2008
Switched everything over to the ValvoMax last year when I tried one on the Tacoma.

I really like it better, the fail safe cap is added assurance

I think some cars with more exposed drain plug are better off with the Valvomax.

I have used a few Fumoto valves on Subaru vehicles and they were all fine. But am installing a Valvomax on my PSD next oil change. I felt the drain plug was too exposed for a Fumoto.

Well, done not to it and take it out
I had a dealership do that couple years ago as they had to change oil after doing work on the engine. I ended up buying a whole new oil pan and replacing it because there just was no getting the drain plug out.
Shoulda thought about getting a pump but didn’t cross my mind.

Sometimes that’s all you can do

I’ve used Fumoto for years on several vehicles. Whenever I change vehicles, I consider the others, but always go with Fumoto. Just flip the lever and, after oil drain, flip it back. With many other brands, it seems like more work than would be involved with using the factory drain plug ie plug in tube, remove tube, clean it, store it for next use, etc.

If this doesn't get someone excited, they probably aren't a real BITOGer.

The elusive zero-drip oil change is possible!
We will get to nuclear fusion and absolute zero (-273.15C or 0K) temperature before we get to a zero drip oil change.

I personally would be happy with a "no mess on my driveway" oil change. With 14 QTs of oil flowing "fast and furious" out of my PSD it's elusive at least for me

^^Use a packing blanket(s) under everything.

Score cotton ones if you can...repaired examples are acceptable for ground cloths.
Great idea…..I use cardboard. I can get new mattress boxes from a local furniture store. I do have to replace them often though

I’ve thought about getting a Fumoto before but I always wonder what would happen if something happened to me. If I got really sick or passed away suddenly then my family would probably start getting oil changes done. Is goober down at the quick lube going to know what to do? Is goober going to screw it up?

I know it’s morbid to think about but sometimes I think about things more in the context of what would happen if I’m not around. So I don’t do it.

Interesting, I was thinking about my own mortality lately, and thought about the one Fumoto valve and the two Valvomax valves on the three vehicles in our family.

Our one son understands the Fumoto on his van, but I would have to leave instructions regarding the Valvomax units on the other two vehicles.

All part of the "Things I do around the house that you might not know about" list I need to make, in case I were (as the life-insurance sales people say), "out of the picture".

Ez oil drain but between them its all sausage to me.
I do have a thread in oil drain tube adapter.
