Which oil cleans more: HPL or Valvoline Restore and Protect?

That's because you have-yet to receive an engine reaction to a particular oil. Once you begin receiving reactions under the hood, you will think differently when changing oil brands, viscosities and/or OCIs.

Having used a few different boutique oils in the past year or two, I am in the early stages of belief that Group III oils deliver the quietest HyunKia engines. Not Group III+...... not a blend of IV and V. I am not intersted in purchasing the value priced Group II+ synthetics, so I refrain from any decision-makings on those.

Thankfully I do short OCIs and I could rest comfortably at night going back to Group III ILSAC / API / PCMO motor oils. I'll know more about my future plans at the end of winter. My trials on Boutiques should render me a decision by-then.

These two Hyunkia products I own are the world's perfect vehicles to do oil experiments on, in regards to cleanliness, quietness and consumption research. Everyone that's a BITOG member should already know that the primary strength of Boutiques are it's ability to render long-long OCIs. But that's never been my intent.
(y)They also have the ability to lighten folks wallets. ;)I can surely attest to that having been a user of them for years! I run Amsoil in one vehicle and HPL in the other.

That still won't answer your question of which one works better.

For example if BITOG member A says, "I ran HPL in my Honda and found carbon bits in my used filter. It really works".

And then BITOG member B says, "I used VRP in my Hyundai and the oil consumption has been reduced by half a quart over the OCI".

Then all you'll know is that both of them do something. Nobody here can tell you which one works better though, head to head.
Uh, ok. Think I just got dumber trying to comprehend that statement. That added nothing to the topic. That’s an opinion you just shared.

You got dumber from reading two realistic examples of people's experiences with those oils? My statement that "real world results" posted here still won't tell you which of these two oils are "better" isn't an opinion, that's a fact.

As in sound? Man I wish we could do a blind "Pepsi Challenge" type test with folks on this and see if they really hear anything or of its all placebo/expected outcome. Put Supertech in. Tell person it's whatever oil they think is the quietest. Do the opposite. The results would be interesting.

I agree! A lot of people think that their engine sounds different after changing from one brand to another and in some cases it’s wishful thinking and in some cases it could just be that fresh oil sounds different than old oil (even just the difference between how your engine sounds with hot oil vs the colder and obviously thicker fresh oil)

Sounds different (actually better / quieter) 3k later too..... not just when the oil is fresh / almost new.

Hyunkia may have been on-to something when deciding what grades / viscosity of oils to use in their Theta 2s (2012-2019) and their return to 2.0 MPIs with our 2020. Nowhere do the Owners Manuals allow 0w30 for ours, despite allowing 5w20 - 5w30 and 10w30.

I have tried 0w30 in both of ours and the engine's most definitely louder. I thought about running 0w20 as a test for about 1k at-least. But I was concerned it would make even more noise and decided against it.

These engines seem to be the quietest with 10w30 / Group 3 synthetic oils. I want to continue using HPL and Amsoil. But I might switch from their top-tier offerings to their entry level syn oils next. My OCIs are short. So I don't need prolonged use of the top-tiers I'm currently using.

My main interests are engine quietness and wear protection. I already know both these brands clean real well.

The same company that has in manual: ACEA A5 or higher? Way before “higher” existed and it is not even in same grade?
My bet on 0W30 is that they just forgot.

I like this idea. From the cockpit? From under the hood just after the change? Both? My ears are quite good. All of my musician pals, including myself, can tell the difference between a top notch vinyl recording vs digital streaming and can distinguish between CD quality and High Definition and Ultra High Definition. Every single time, blind folded and without fail.

When I switched from HPL 0w20 PPPCEO to No VII Euro 5w20 the sound difference was immediate and very noticable by me, and still is after being in the sump for several weeks.

Wherever you want. I control what oil is put in and what I tell you I put in (which may not be the same thing).

So far in the daily driven focus and Dakota; HPL hands down. As someone pointed out if R&P won’t touch soft varnish or gunk; I’ll gladly pass on that product.
