Where Is The Ammunition?

I will be putting a small dent into my ammo supply this Saturday. .22 LR, 40 S&W, .357 SIG, 9mm, and some .223. I'm running low on 38 SPL. and 357 Magnum, so I won't be shooting any of that. The others, I'm stocked well. But, I am always looking online. And, it isn't looking too good.

Times like this is why I buy plenty when it's plentiful and cheap. I've got enough to last me a few years. Just as I expected with the events of the last couple weeks .22LR is going through the roof again. ammoseek.com is showing $ .18 a round for .22LR as the cheapest available. Just a couple years ago I was buying bulk pack .22LR for 2.3c a round and better quality .22LR for 3.4c a round including shipping delivered to my front door.

I don't think I shot any centerfire or 22lr after April of this year. My stash might as well be gold at this point.

But I've heard of people who just kept on shootin' this year like prices and levels would return. I wonder what those people are thinking now.

All the anti 2A folks bought guns and ammo at the beginning of this situation thinking that they would be forced to protect their family when the TP ran out.

I am waiting for this to end and the never fired guns end up at the pawn shops

Prices will eventualIy come back down and ammo will also once again be priced reasonable but, the question is when. When we had the last ammo shortage that began in 2012 and went until about 2016 or 2017 I said when it got back to normal prices I was going to restock and get a larger stockpile than before. I did what I said I was going to do and advised others to do the same thing. If they didn't follow my advise it's their own fault they don't have ammo now. I plan to keep shooting some. It will probably be mostly .22LR since I have about 40K rounds of it but, I have enough 9mm, .45ACP, and 7.62x54R that I won't feel the threat of running out anytime soon if I shoot some of it now and then.

Check the more reputable online places daily, save a bookmark for the calibers you’re looking for, and filter for “in stock”. Then grab it while you can. I’ve ordered twice in the past few weeks. The local stores have zilch. Expensive ammo in your gun is better than no ammo In it.

From what I'm told by a gun store owner I've known for years, production of guns and related products..ammo...ect...is way way down due to virus restrictions, and expected to get worse. If the production of ammo is curtailed, or halted, there wont be much buying of new guns, even if you can find any to buy.
I reload and the main shortage is bullets in common sizes....9mm, 38, 45acp. Found two boxes of 100 hp's, $26.95 ea! Have an order in for 1000 lead 9mm's; $88, two week delay. I'm guessing its the shortage of bullets for manufacturers of ammo that is causing the lack of ammo. Plus hoarding.

I’m one of those people. In previous threads on the subject, I’ve mentioned that I bought enough ammo when it was cheap to carry me through many years of no (or crazy-priced) ammo.

Well, that’s where we find ourselves.

People thought my stash size discussion was loony. Whatever. I was at the range yesterday. I’m going again tomorrow. I gave a box of 9mm Federal HST to a friend who had no ammo for his defensive gun.

Demand will normalize. Supply will catchup. It may take a couple of years, which is exactly what happened in the last cycle.

When it does return to normal, I recommend stocking up again.
