My older daughter went to elementary school in Fountain Valley. We then moved to Irvine so she went to middle and high schools in Irvine. She then went to community college in Irvine.

My younger daughter went to elementary, middle and high schools in Irvine. The closet one was elementary about 5/8 miles, middle school was 3.5 miles and high school was 1 mile. She is attending UCI(University of California at Irvine) about 2 miles. Now we are moving to Lake Forest about 6-7 miles away, she need to drive 8-9 miles instead of 2-3 miles each way.

I think not many go to all schools from elementary to college in the same city.

Interesting; my folks moved to Fountain Valley in the mid 60s and I graduated from FVHS; in those days, elementary schools (mine was John C McDowell - now long gone I think) went through to 8th grade...

from k through 12th grade I only went to 2 schools. I went to Catholic school so k-8 was in one school and 9-12 was in my high school. I hope when I have kids, I can afford to send them to Catholic school also.

I was the only one in my family of 3 kids to go 1-12 in the same district. my Parents Moved around Ohio a lot in the late 70's/early 80's as dad got transferred around, and then after leaving that job, as he found Work.

Now, My Brother(oldest) Did go to Kindergarten at the same School we all Graduated From, be there was a lot of Moving in between.
let me put it this way.

The House I grew up In (5th, or 6th place i'd Lived, and I turned 5 there) Was Separated from the School building. by a Row of houses. (backside of the houses across from us abutted the school property)

by that time it was just the High School, but when Dad and Grandpa(and their Brothers) went there it was k-12. (since demolished when they built a new HS in 2012)

WE moved into that house in 84, back into the District in 82.
My Sister did 6-12 in the District, and My Brother, K, 10-12.
He Graduated in 85, I started First Grade in 86(Class of 98), She Graduated in 89. The Elementary(k-5) and Middle(6-8) schools were about a mile away at the other end of the Village. so either Bus, Bike, or 20 min walk for little me. Usually bus in elementary, then bike/walk in MS.
High School, Just had to cut through one yard.

Then 2 0f my 3 failed Collegiate "attempts" were about 15 mi away, on the other side of the City.

Dad Went k-12 in one building, then moved to Kansas for College, and met my mom, whose prior Schooling had been in China, India, Seattle(might have been Tacoma), and Twin Falls, ID.

Her Parents were Missionaries, When they left China, it was Literally "Grab the Kids and What you can Carry, B/c the Red Army is about 20 Min away"

I tried to enroll my first daughter to a Catholic school in Costa Mesa about 10 miles from our house, but we didn't qualified.

The elementary and high schools were on the way to work, so I just made a brief stop about 5-10 seconds then on my way. The middle school is on almost opposite direction and that one add 5-6 miles to my commute.

Well UCI is excellent university and Irvine is a lovely city.

And how nice she didn't want to bolt when the time came to earn her higher education.

Remember when 7-9 was junior high school? Times changed, I'm getting old. I remember fighting in my day wasn't punished unless it was bloody and gym coach made us deal with the issue that caused it. I've since learned to keep patience close and leave anger and middle finger at home when entering an automobile.

My kids went to public schools in Chattanooga,tn. I called it 12 years of daycare....................I had the money to send them to college.........they did not want college.........now they are paying for that loss of exposure to a better way of life imho.

Not everyone that is lead to the water of life will drink from that cup, some love the desert.................

I stayed pretty local to the town I grew up in (Easthampton MA)...

Catholic Elem in town I grew up in.
High School in town I grew up in.
Under Grad college 2 towns away.
Grad School 25 miles from town I grew up in.

So far my kids are now attending school in the town they are growing up in. I don't see that changing anytime soon!

We've contemplated home schooling, have several friends who do that. But wife and I aren't so good at the basic stuff--once you understand calculus then trying to teach how to add seems so... trivial--and frustrating when it doesn't sink in.

Assuming we don't move our kids will go K-12 in the same town. Three different schools but they are at most 3 miles apart; the high school is maybe 8 miles from my house.

However, college is a different story. We have some small (but expensive) ones close, but the tech schools are a good 40min away in Concord/Manchester/etc. Dunno what my kids will do when that time comes, college or vocational. Of course we have high hopes of college (and that would be probably hour plus away) and high paying jobs etc; but simply too far off at the moment.

*Edit

I did two different schools growing up. Parents moved after I went to junior high; I did a couple years at the new school, then it was a good 20min plus drive to high school when I made that jump. And then further off when I went to college. Since I moved too my kids won't go to the same schools that I did.

I attended 5 different schools, in different cities, by the time I reached 8th grade. I attended one high school through all four years, which was the longest I remained in one school up to that point. Later, I attended three universities in three different states, but that was my choice.

Consequently, my kids have attended one Catholic school from K thru 8, and, so far, one high school, all in the same community.

I did, but it was a *cough* *cough* few years ago.

Elementary: in the French Quarter, a school which is still going as a charter school. If you've seen Elvis in "King Creole," they used its exterior as the exterior of Elvis's high school.

Junior high: in Mid-City, fairly close to the Fairgrounds. My friends and I called it "Stalag 28" (because "Hogan's Heroes" was on at that time, and because the principal was big on discipline).

High school: the same school that Lee Harvey Oswald had attended a bunch of years before, his last schooling before dropping out.

College: both times here in the city, the state university and then, much later, the private school where I worked then and still do.

My son was born in the hospital across the street from his school(Pre school to 8th).Went to Catholic high school about 10 miles from his middle school. Now at U of A in Tucson.

I was born in New Jersey and went to two public schools. Moved to Ohio in 3rd grade and left for California in the 7th grade. Lucky to attend 7-12th in the same area. Went to high school with John Elway and played football @ The Ohio State Unversity. Graduated and moved back to California.

I grew up in a town a little over a mile square. Everyone walked, busses were only used for sports and other field trips.

I now live in by similar town, and my kids will walk to the local school, never ride busses, etc. Where we live is far from city, but things are close and traffic isn't bad. Can't beat it.

in 1955 dad, mom and i moved just out side the city limits in Wichita. county grade school. so i went to county schools 1 thru 8. with 8 being in a 4 year high school. city line took us in then went to 9-12 at city high school. later both my boys went to city schools. the first school i went to was torn down about 8 years ago. i just happened to see all the bricks on the ground. so stopped and got 2. my mom has a brick from her primary school. all in all the schools in this area are very good. my high school tought me to be a machinist. and earned a good living all my life. my oldest boy earns a very living fixing bad software. he went to Wichita State U. i think they did a great job.
