Where can I find mobil 1 oils like HM clean in NJ?

Howdy folks,

I had settled on M1 HM clean 5-30 for my '91 Accord (148K, finishing an ARX treatment) and was thinking about M1 EX perf 5-20 in my '98 F150 (99K, finishing an ARX treatment as well). I hit 6 different auto stores from Toms River, NJ to Eatontown (about a 25 mile stretch) and I only found one bottle of EX perf, and it was $12 a quart. I don't shop at walmart so I'm looking for other stores.

Two things I erroneously thought; The first is that M1 products would be readily available across the line at major Auto Stores (AZ, AA, NAPA, etc) and to that I now say HA! The second is that the comments that I read about Amsoil (I have a Pref Cust account) being way more expensive to buy than something like M1 EX perf have proven in my experience to be false, at least from the prices I saw today. Really, the only way to see a price savings would be to go to my oil change place, where they charge about $50 for any M1 variant they make. I really like the Amsoil products and use their trans, gear and motorcycle synthetics exclusively, but I had extremely positive results running vanilla M1 in my accord and would like to check out the HM clean. Anyone have any suggestions? I think I'm just going to get Amsoil 0-20 Syn for my F150, because frankly even with shipping the price isn't that bad. But I don't know if Amsoil has an oil that is comparable to the HM Clean add pack wise. Cheers in advance for your advice, and for reading my rambling post.

I'm gonna make a statement that all Amsoil lubes contain an additive package that is at least as robust as what you are seeking - hence their lack of a "high mileage" product. The "High Mileage" products from most mfrs is mostly a marketing gimmick. Yes, some of the additives are boosted (mostly detergents, and seal swell agents) - but only a little - yet the prices are boosted quite a bit.

Mobil's HM line is priced the same as there standard line and additive levels are usually nicely boosted(SL).

Since you don't want to shop at Walmart, your choices is limit and your prices is higher. In your case, you will be better buying and using Amsoil.

You know, I was thinking that, and as a rule I have stayed away from the "high mileage" labeled oils the same way I stay away from the likes of Lucas ".... saver" products. But I've read quite a few positive accounts here concerning M1 high mileage and Valvoline so my interest was piqued. Bah, I'm just gonna order the amsoil 5-30 full syn and 0-20 oils and be done with it. I've always had positive results with every application of Amsoil I've used, and the pricing in the stores here for M1 is too close to my all in prices for amsoil for me to lose any sleep over. Until I joined BITOG, I was only vaguely aware the Walmart sold motor oil. I wouldn't have thought of getting auto supplies there any more than Target.
I still usually go to an auto parts store.

I find this odd, almost every AZ (and most AA) I've been in have a pretty good selection of M1 HM. NAPA doesn't carry it I think.

You are comparing regular everyday price at WM with sale price elsewhere. If you go to auto parts store looking at regular price, it is about 15-30% higher than WM's price.

Most of my oil stash was purchased on sale at auto part stores plus rebate(s), I bought five 5-qt jugs (2 M1 and 3 PP) at WM last year only for rebates.

Many of us here wait for the $29.99 sales from the auto stores that will give us a very good filter and a quality synthetic oil. Wal-mart can't best those prices but their everyday prices will beat the auto stores everyday prices. You mentioned Mobil EP and O'Reillys runs a special twice a year with precisely that oil and a Mobil EP filter for $33. That's a fantastic deal for such a highly regarded oil and a great filter. It's prices like these that make Amsoil seem so expensive.
