My son just purchased a new Nissan Titan truck and wants to swath to Amsoil oil, What is the consensus opinion as to when to switch?

Thanks ....

I would change it out to a Havoline or Chevron Supreme at 1500 miles then change it again to Amsoil at 3000 miles.

I did mine at 1600 and put Mobil1 in at that interval, but I think it would be best to do the first 2 early and without synthetic.

Daily Drives:
-2003 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner,2.7 liter, 4 cylinder, Mobil1 5w30 ODO 15600
-1995 Toyota 4-Runner,3.0 liter,6 cylinder, Mobil1 10w30 ODO 96200

Whenever he wants is fine. No need to waste the factory fill of oil IMO though. This is wher4e all the old wives tells break in theories come out. Personally I would run it for a normal OCI on the factory fill 3k miles or so and then switch. He could switch right now as many engines are factory filled with syn lubes.

BTW; I have succesfully completred 1 year with the factory fill synthetic in a BMW. I will have it dumped this month. I am not that worried.

Run the factory oil a good 3-5k miles. Engines today are so precise you don't see a tremendous amount of break-in wear. Switch over around 5k. -

I have a nissan titan also great truck. All the uoa on this engine seem to have somewhat high wear in the first 2000mi and then it trends down consideribly after that. I would wait atleast that long. I Dumped the factory oil at 2k and put in dino and then went with M1 at 5k, I dont know if that was neccesary but cheap ins. as far as i'm concerened.

I have the same truck about 3 weeks now. Planned on switching to synthetic at 500 miles. But was not able to get to it till 900 miles. Havoline 5w30 syn. from Autozone clearance. I do not think it matters when you switch. It is used as factory fill in some vehicles.

Well I"ve got 2700 on my New Nissan Truck and I'll be switching over to the XL series as soon as a make an order. I'll run that for about 7000 miles then go on to the really good stuff.

The long break-in is still needed for rebuilt engines since they do not use the hi-tech machinery that the car makers have. But for a new car, I'd use the oil supplied in the engine until its time to change, then switch to synthetic.

He made a great choice in buying the titan!
Msparks, how do you like the 05 fronty with the 2.5? Hows the power delivery?
Ive driven 2 4.0 6peeds but havent test driven the 2.5 yet. Was considering upgrading my 04 but not sure yet.
