Just got it. Nissan gives me 3 free oil changes within 2 years with purchase. I’m a do it myself guy. Normally. I talked to the service manager and told him I would bring it back at 1000 miles. And squeeze in the other two changes before the two year time period. He said no problem. I realize bulk oil. Should still be synthetic due to it being 0w20. When I start my own oil changes was thinking Mobil 1 advance 0w20. What oil filter is a great go too filter. I thought I saw where the Nissan filter is made in Mexico . Nothing special but still alright. This will be a low mileage vehicle. Probably once a year oil change . 3-5000 miles a year. Wardawg

I am surprised the dealer agreed to drain your oil so early. When I had a couple free oil changes from the dealer, I changed-out the factory-fill at 3k and let the dealership do a free change at 6k. I never told the dealership I did my own oil change in-between.

At 9k, I did another DIY oil change and the dealership did his 2nd free oil change at 12k.
I have continued with the 3k OCIs.... why?.... because we own Hyundai and Kia vehicles from 2019 and 2020.

I would rather over-maintain them, due to all the engine failures of the past with Hyunkia engines of that era. My daughter has the 2023 Nissan Rogue with that three cylinder engine. It's the noisiest engine I ever encountered in my 73 years on this planet. Her 3Y lease allows her all the oil changes for free.... every 5k.

Nice truck you have there. My neighbor has the Frontier from a couple years ago. Rides and sounds nice to me.

I went with the salesman to the service manager. Told him I want an oil change at 1000 and at least one more before the two year time limit. He said problem. Said Nissan Corporate eats the oil change cost not the dealership. I can’t say he knows what he’s saying. But if I get 2 free in 2 years I’ll be satisfied. The truck is smooth and quick. I love the 9 speed. Wardawg

I'll 2nd Glenda W. on the filters. You can get the Microgard Select from Oreilly Auto Parts. Oil? I would go with any name brand Dexos1 Gen3 oil. My current favs are Mobil1 Extended Protection and Valvoline EP but all the majors players make great Dexos1 Gen3 oils.

Congrats on the new truck -- really digging the color also. I think you have a good plan moving forward with the 3 free oil changes. Any of the majors with proper spec./certifications will suit that truck fine for 5K OCIS moving forward. Personally I would lean towards a 0W30 or 5W30 weight after your initial dealer oil changes. For the price a Fram Tough Gard is hard to beat unless you can get the Carquest Premiums on sale. Happy motoring....

sweet ride best of luck with the new truck. that's cool of the service manager getting you in for an early oil change. Mobil 1 is a great choice otherwise anything Dexos approved would be fine. Stick with OE filters while under warranty, you may be able to cross reference and purchase the OE Japan manufactured filter. Also not necessary to shy away from 0W20.

looks like your truck may already come with the JAPAN filter..

That color is awesome. Congrats on the new truck. I overthink oil selection whenever I get a new vehicle but honesty use whatever 0w20 you want. I dig the Quaker State Ultimate Protection right now for its value in this inflationary economy.

Nice truck! I'm looking for side steps for our newly acquired Wranger 2-dr. What brand do you have on and how do you like them? Thanks...BTW, this 0w-20 oil "recommendation", not a fan except if you live in really cold climate. (NC did have snow lately, 60mi. from the coast, maybe that counts?)

Newly purchased. Will do an OC before 1k mi. I was going to go w/Pennzoil Ultra Platinum on the change, but changed my mind. Going to use Castrol Edge @ 1k/2.5/then another @ 5k. (So, 1.5k and 2.5k interval.) That should get the break-in shaving (if any) out. After that going to use my AA Castrol "clearance" Edge Extended Protection @ 5k intervals. (I have quite of few jugs.) I've decided not to accept the dealer "free" OC's w/them using Pennzoil bulk oil. That's also one of the reasons not going w/Pennzoil at this time. BTW, I really like your suggestion of using the Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30. After using up the Castrol, I may go that route or ? That's quite a few years off, who knows if I'll be doing OC's then?

Congratulations on the new ride.
I'm in the same boat...
0w20 is no longer guranteed to be full synthetic although I would agree most likely it will be at the dealer..Heck even Amsoil got into the ss 0w20....
I wouldn't be surprised if the bulk is 5w20 as many have the semi synthetic and it's often cheaper.

That's the thing. Who really knows what the dealer really uses? Also, with my luck, the bulk oil the dealer would use would be the last 5 qts at the bottom of the barrel! (That's if they don't over fill...put in 6qts as required at one time on the 3.6 but not on this year engine oil capacity.) Plus I enjoy working on our cars (to a limit)!

Congratulations on the truck. I just went through the same process couple of days ago. I picked up a 24 Nissan Titan was trying to decide what oil and filter myself. According to everyone recommendation I end up going with Carquest, premium filter and Quaker State ultimate protection 0W 20 for the first oil change.

Congratulations on the new Frontier. I've owned a bunch of them long ago starting off with the 1987 Hardbody SE V6 4x4 manual extended cab. Got good service out of all of them. I do my own oil services even though dealer may have some free ones. Currently using the Nissan OEM filters in all my Nissans and Valvoline Advanced 0w20 garage boxes for the ones that require that grade. Been happy with it.

Mine was the newer style. I was running a 1000 miles a week on it using Amsoil 10w40 and the Amsoil Oil Filter (thick media). Changed the filter at 10k and oil at 20k miles. When I took it in for timing belt and water pump at the dealer, they were horrified at how clean the engine was. It was sold at 150k miles and looked almost new.

I had a V6 93.5 hardbody with a 5spd too. The picture was the 82 diesel 5spd.

Owned an 1985 regular cab manual. A GREAT truck! Wish I would have kept to this day. The trucks that followed were not as good, nor as much fun. (1991 Nissan extended cab, 1992 Toyota extended cab all manuals.) Now the 1997 GMC SLS reg. cab was nice. Very comfortable. I wish I would have kept as well. We need this type of truck again. (I remember a few yrs back, the Ford dealer could not sell a regular cab, long bed Gold colored Ranger P/U 2 wheel drive. It was a stick BUT w/a V-6 engine. Give away price. I should have bought! That was probably a really fun combo!
