Nissan Dealer Bulk oil??

Hi Guys, I searched around and didn't see anything on this... Any of you know what bulk oil the Nissan dealers are using?

Reason I ask is I've NEVER let anyone do my oil changes but our new Sentra came with 1 year free oil changes and tire rotations so I was gonna take advantage of it. My OM calls for 0w20 but allows 5w30 when that's not available. I'm doubting anyone at my local dealer knows whats in the barrel...

Does Nissan have an OEM oil of their own like Toyota or Mazda?
 
You'll have to ask their purchasing agent.

I don't know about Nissan specifically, but most dealers aren't required to buy any particular oil and will usually go with whatever's cheapest. It may even change from barrel to barrel.
 
As far as I know, every dealership (Nissan, Chevy, BMW, etc. etc) is on it's own in regards to what bulk oil it wants to buy/use.

For example, my local Honda dealership uses Valvoline bulk oil in in their shop. They don't even use Honda Transmission Fluid!!!!

i thought it was up to the individual dealer what the source?
 
Mazda, Toyota and Honda dealers are the same way. Cheap bulk, varying brands... with the exception of Mazda since they have a endorsement deal with Castrol.

Trying to get them to order OEM syn oil is like pulling teeth. Out of the local Toyota, Honda, Mazda and Subaru dealerships the only on that carried their 0w-20 syn in stock was Toyota. Didn't check with Nissan, though, I have no idea who makes their OEM oil. Unlike the other Asian manufacturers, I have very little faith that Nissan has a killer syn made for them.
 
wow... so the dealers don't even carry/use their own branded oils? Didn't know that!

What is the purpose of the TGMO oils and the Mazda branded stuff if they aren't going to use it? I figured for the price you pay at the dealer for service that you were getting the good stuff at least but in reality they are no better than Jiffy lube!
 
It will vary from dealership to dealership. For example, the Honda dealership near us uses bulk Gulf oil. Another uses Valvoline. They are not mandated by Honda Corporate to use one specific brand nationwide. However, if you buy their OEM oil from the parts counter, that should be the same no matter which dealership you go to. You'd have to change it yourself, or specially request it and have them use that oil (but you'd likely pay more)
 
The dealer my parents go to is a Ford and Chrysler dealer. They use MC Synblend 5w-20 and Synblend 5w30 for both Ford and Chrysler products.
 
What can happen when the manufacture recomends 0w20 and it is on the oil fill cap? If 0w20 is not availiable 5w20 may be used but, should be changed at ....... Can the dealer use 5w20 and clame it is OK? Ed
 
Thats what I really curious to see and will be asking when I take my car in... it specifies 0w20 but I'm doubting the dealer has that in stock.
 
WITH TOYOTA, A TGMO bulletin used to state that ... 'any oil meeting ILSAC GF4 in the appropriate grade would be classified as' TGMO. So if the dealer was using bulk an ILSAC approved lubricant in the correct grade you are OK.
 
I've been looking for parts recently and visited a couple of Honda parts departments and one Acura parts dept. They all had the full range of 0W-20, 5W-20, and 5w30 synthetic oils and Honda semi-syn 0W-20. I doubt they used it in the service dept, but they would have been able to use it for a customer service on request.

Dealers aren't obligated to use these OEM oils. For years they didn't even exist. I remember a prominent Mobil Oil sign at a local Honda dealer owned by Hendrick Automotive Group. The entire group recently changed to Valvoline after a deal with Hendrick Motorsports.

You would have to ask the Nissan dealer what oil they are using.

My girlfriend just bought a new Malibu and she got GM's extended warranty. With that comes 3 years free maintenance. The Chevy dealer she goes to uses AC Delco synthetic blend.
 
It has been several years but when I owned a Toyota Tercel owners were invited to a meeting with the service manager. The manager said that they were switching from Pennzoil oil to Valvoline. He said that Valvoline kept the engine a little cleaner. He had a representative from Valvoline there but I don't think the Valvoline representative said much if anything.
 
My local dealer uses Pennzoil conventional, but they stick a Mobil 1 oil change reminder sticker on my wife's Versa.
 
I asked my Nissan dealer and they use Valvoline syn blend. For sythetic they offer Mobil 1. I will get my first 2 oil changes for free (one done already). I am going to ask the dealer if they will do Mobil 1 for my second free one. I guess the service dept just bills the sales dept since it was included in the deal. I guess they get about $65 for a Mobil 1 oil change but I did pick up some Mobil 1 on sale for $4.49 a qt and may carry it in to save some money. Our Impreza takes the same 5w30 so I can use it on that also. I did also take advantage of the Pennzoil platinum $20 warranty rebate since my 13' pathfinder qualifies. Anyway I have a nice little stash of syn oil that should last about 2 years.
