Whats your opinion on people who work everyday?

Opportunity is by far #1. And no, we don't all have the same opportunity.
#2 is the willingness and decision to take advantage of that opportunity.
#3 is luck.

Brains are in there somewhere, but I think it is more about getting into the right position for you.

Luck is something lots of people overlook and don’t even realize they were at the right place at the right time.
I had the Earth, Moon and Sun align just perfectly a few times for me in my career.

Sometimes I would wonder how things played out perfectly…..

My personality is anti butt kiss, anti schmoozing, anti politics kind of person.

I work full time in a sheet metal shop 6am-2pm (no paid time off, no sick days or paid vacation), and farm 1400 acres. Only time off in the spring and fall is when the weather doesn't allow any field work. Almost don't know what to do with myself when I do get some time off.

I’ve been retired 2.5 years now. I had a good career in engineering and construction, and worked with many good people. But I wouldn’t want to go back, the positives are outweighed by day to day stress of the job. I was asked to come back this year for a construction project they need help with, but time is more important to me now than the extra income.

If I were at a different Silicon Valley that did not value custom Business IT development, I would likely have done OK, but not got the golden handcuffs.

And if I weren't in Silicon Valley, who knows what opportunity there would be for a super late bloomer like me.

we all have the same opportunity. Sadly we do not all have the same ability.
Good point. Seems many feel that life is unfair but how so? Is it unfair that my education and test scores and degrees have landed me in an entry level job for all my life? (Maybe I’m being facetious as my buddy says that when I say my job is entry level) 😂

No. It’s my own doing. I’ve prided myself on being a nice guy following the golden rule. So when I work 60 hours to a coworker’s 5-15, many believe they are the ones who got the good gig and I’m a sucker (they wfh). I couldn’t do that. I’d have to work 40 hours minimum to not feel I’m stealing a paycheck. Many don’t feel that way at all. There was a time I traveled 50% and I still put in long hours. Many colleagues flew only during work hours and then they did sight seeing on every trip 😆

Someone here rightfully said my wfh scenario is due to poor Mgt as he manages a staff that has hybrid. I recall that person led by example and went to a further office from his house when he did RTO.

So to answer the question again I will always respect hard workers and not respect lazy ones.

I'm on a 6 and 2 schedule on call. It's basically working all the time. A lot of time in hotels. It's what I know. There's an end in sight though. I'm going to back off in about 5 years. That's the plan at least. I'm just setting the stage to get some more investments going. I'd still be working, but on a reduced 5 and 2 schedule on call that really works out to working 3 days a week. The on call still punches a bit of a hole in that, but I'd be home more.

Yes, invest. It's time in the market. Good luck @Torrid

It's time in the market.
That's the secret.

You don't have to be an expert in the market and you don't need an 'expert' advising you (to take their cut) and they can't outguess index funds over time. Invest in no-load index funds and don't look back and for goodness sake, don't sell. If the market goes down, BUY MORE. Hold them until you retire and you won't believe what they will be worth.

There are lots of people that don't have anybody but their "work family". Not everybody has a ton of friends. Not everybody has hobbies to keep them busy. It's not just about money.
Is it really a family though? I don't think people really hang out with them outside of work. They only interact during work becaise they have to

I have some that I work with that are like family. We spend a lot of time at work together. Occasionally we go out for a beer after work. If you spend a whole week on a job with a person they refer to it as being married up. Some I talk to on a daily basis even if it's just messaging back and forth. As weird as it may sound it's a bit of a mental health thing. We all understand how nuts the job and schedule is and it helps keep the sanity.
