Work Motivation In Your Older Age

Majority of Americans are in a rut at work and feel like Fred from Dunkin Donuts.

They are like a hamster in spinning wheel.
I only say stuff I really mean Automechanic, you have always struck me as a down to earth, stand up person.

You will make a great partner for somebody.

I hope you find a nice partner that brightens your life and is a true friend and soulmate.

Motivation is so overrated and always runs out it's Discipline that works.
True but I think some of us need a "why" in order to pursue discipline. End of the day--what's in it for me? When you no longer think there is something in for you, it gets hard. Some people do it for sheer enjoyment, I think for the rest of us, at some point it stopped being fun and turned into work.

Motivation? What’s that? 😂 14 years in the same position.. I’ve been mentally beat up by everyone… I used to fight back. Now I just wait till they get fired. Killed my ambition. I’m the old guy they wake up when the machine needs to be kicked in the right place. Now days if a card reader doesn’t work people lose their minds.. it’s pretty rare. Didn’t used to be.

I could get hired pretty much anywhere but ehh saving my energy for after work. Shoot even our contractors calls us from other job sites on occasion to brain storm problems.

Having been around the non-profit/volunteer scene I can say there's a high number of couples who form long-term relationships who met this way.

Obviously a lot of people meet at work but that can be difficult in the trades since it's primarily men. So, another outlet outside of work can be a great way to meet women who aren't bar rats. Obviously church is good, too.

I tend to be in the animal sector of volunteering but of course there are tons of opportunities and I don't expect everyone to be passionate about animals. People just suck in general and I have little interest in helping them :D but not everyone feels this way.

Anyway, just a thought..... (which should be viewed with incredible skepticism as my brain rarely has good thoughts)

We're now here to tell Automechanic what to do and ignore Zee09 ;)

I'm at the point there is no turning back . I'm ready to get lost because I'm tired of living the daily lifestyle that I really don't care about anymore.. for once I could do without grown men crying about their toys like crying schoolgirls. 😆

Well, that's not how I look at it. I signed up to do a job in exchange for a paycheck and bennies. That paycheck has been there without fail; I need to keep up my end of the bargain.
My paycheck and the opportunity motivate me; the company doesn't owe me a thing. If I don't like it, or whatever, I can do leave or do something about it.

They gave me a chance. It is up to me to make the most of that chance. That's my opinion.

My wife is a chronic worrier. She worries enough for me and our boys. I have said to her forever, if you can't change it don't worry about it. If you can change it, stop worrying and change it. I guess I'm different, but I try very hard not to worry at all.

Just my $0.02

Yep, I agree with you 100%

I was similar to your wife until the age of 30 when I stopped worrying about 10 different things.
Much less stress and aggravation in my life.

Agree completely.
I've been through some awful times in my career but I had the personal grit to push through and get to what I knew would be better times.
I have always said that the best example you can give your children is to get up and go to work every day even when you'd rather not.
Self discipline is what gets you through the bad times and on to the finish line.

I have a great friend who was a deacon at the local church tell me "no one is very laying on their death bed wishing they worked more"

He didn't know my father ....
Sounds like a great American.

Pissed off at himself for not building that one thing..or fixing that one thing. Hats off to him sir.

When you do the same stuff day in and day out and you work for the public you often need motivation other than $$$ to keep you going.

The thrill after 45 years leaves your old and tired bones..Before the Inflation hit I would buy a new machine tool now and then to keep me motivated but now they cost as much as a new economy car.

Plus the older you get the more you realize you can't keep doing that as there will be no payout. Money seems to disappear with age too.

Boredom sets in quickly and thoughts of retirement sinks in even if you can't afford it...

What do you do to keep motivated...?
Find places with very low humans per square mile, crap cell phone reception and a lot of rocks and critters...🙄

My motivation: I need my insurance, I like to eat, and I prefer to sleep indoors. Not completely happy with my current situation, but I've got too much time invested to start over somewhere else.

This, of course, is subject to the lottery coming through. If those stupid ping-pong balls ever cooperate, I'm a dot on the horizon getting smaller by the second... :ROFLMAO:
