What's your "one stop shop" oil?

Amsoil. I use it in everything, including my generator.

I dabbled with the Valvoline Restore and Protect to see for myself what it was all about since I always used Valvoline prior to Amsoil and ultimately I have been under impressed overall. It helped with a small amount of oil use on one vehicle I had, but I never saw it clean varnish like so many others report. So I have moved on and back to Amsoil exclusively. I think I always knew that using the Restore and Protect wouldn’t be a long term thing for me.

Advance auto fram conventional oil then...mobil extended protection 10w30. And valvoline conventional. I really like fram synthetic, cat starts up super fast 22 degree weather. I like old school stuff
If Mobil drive was still made ide def use that

I'm with OVERKILL on this one, I'm of the mind that Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 0w40 is an all-rounder that's pretty darn tough to beat. I can routinely get three 5L jugs for $99.00 CAD delivered from Walmart. It's incredible value per dollar and would work well in everything except for maybe the Pentastar 3.6L where I'd be inclined to lean more towards a 0/5W-30 but I'm sure would work well in it too.

I run Valvoline Restore and Protect 5w-30 in the following engines.

GM 3.6 V6 first gen (LY7) with 62k
GM Northstar V8 4.6 with 155k
Ford Triton V8 5.4 2v with 192k
Chrysler Pentastar 3.6 V6 first gen with 175k
Honda K24 with 165k
Hyundai Theta 2.4 DI with 161k (son’s car)
Subaru FB20 NA 2.0 with 100k (mom’s car)

Don’t see myself switching to some other oil anytime soon. Everything gets 5k changes.

Far as I know it has more PAO group 4 in the mix. Compare section 3 of their MSDS sheets side by side. I really am not qualified to answer this; there are others that can though.
I may reach out to a couple of members on here who are always in the ESP/Euro threads. I have no plans of switching but I'd like to have a good understanding of the alternatives out there for the 0w30. Primarily ESP 5w30 and Pennzoil euro L 5w30. Those two seem to be up there in terms of performance and approvals. They're also priced pretty much the same.

end all be all oils are a hard topic….

fleet/no budget, chevrolet/ford pickups: HPL PCEO 5w-40

for unknown maintenance: Valvoline Restore and Protect 5w-30

for known maintenance but long OCI: Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5w-30

for high mileage pickups that don’t get HPL: Valvoline Extended Protection High Mileage 5w-30

for OPE/whole home generators/NG or Propane fueled equipment: Mobil 1 0w-40

Diesels: Delvac Extreme 15w-40 if approved, otherwise Rotella T6 5w-40 in power smokes.

I definitely understand that. I'm fortunate all my needs can be met easily with a euro 30wt oil. But if I needed 40 or 50wt or hdeo, of course I'd have to add another lube.

You know, not trying to hijack my own thread, but how are ESP 0w30 and 5w30 different? I know the consensus is 0w30 uses a gtl/pao/ester base oil blend and slightly higher SAPS (but still mid SAPS) additive package, but what do we know has changed to make the 5w30 different? 5w30 is more lspi friendly in regards to it having a more API SQ oriented add pack? Gtl/grpIII base? I get the details mixed up because I've read about several different 5w30 C3 VW 507 oils 😵‍💫
The difference I most noted is that ESP 5W-30 is BMW LL04, the ESP 0W-30 is not. General speculation on BMW forums is that the oxidation level of 0W-30 is too high to make the LL04 spec - maybe from more ester content.
Both meet the MB229.52 and I ran it #1 girls 328i, SDs X5, and our X3 anyway. None have blown up over the last few years.
It was my go-to oil until HPL made me experiment again.
Other SD got Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0w20 in her Camry because she asked for it.

Generally speaking it seems most here seek the Mercedes and VW specs before BMW, unless of course they have a BMW. I'm running mine in a 2004 Ford so I'm not exactly pushing the limits of any of those specs 😅

BMW has been known to change the spec, but not change the number. So suddenly LL01 oils weren't anymore. One day on the list, next day gone.
MB and VW change the number when they update a spec.

That's inaccurate, as I recall looking this up before. MB does update the details of given specifications over time, I went over that here:

That's funny because I picked Mobil 1 0w-40 for the Porsche A40.
