Looking for a better Mobil 1 synthetic extended performance for my 2015 escalade? I have used Mobil 1 0W/20 since new. I saw the Mobil 1 annual protection? It does have similar components with the extended performance. What's the reason for 100% jump in price of the annual projection? Mobil 1 EP 0W/20 is $26 per 5 gallon container while the annual protection Mobil 1 is $54? Why is that? The spec sheet from mobil 1 EP and the annual protection are the same?

I don't think we really know much of anything concrete about AP at this point.
Some posters here have mentioned that EP seems to be selling very well since AP came out, maybe the price of 20kmile AP makes 15kmile EP look like a great bargain by comparison...

If you're still under the factory I'd consider not changing anything, yet.

That's not impressive, as we learned in the Harry Potter universe, it's the metallic unicorn blood that extends life indefinitely. Even if it is only a half life.

Would I go 15,000 miles between oil changes ? No way . I am an old redneck . Accustomed to 3,000 oil / filter change interval .
On our 2015 Chevy Sonic 1.8l automatic , I watch the oil life % . I change the oil / filter at about 50% , but do not reset the indicator . Then change oil / filter at about 5% . Then reset the % display .
We got 4 free oil changes in the first 24,000 miles from GM . I guess they used GM Dexos , which is a synthetic blend . In between , I have used either Mobil Super Synthetic or Mobil 1 ( regular ) . Both Dexos spec .
If I start using the EP Mobil 1 , it would be on the hope it is better than the " regular " Mobil 1 , for roughly the same money , at Walmart . But I would continue to change oil / filter at 50% & 5% .
Roughly twice as often as GM requires .
BTW , GM keeps track of oil / filter changes via OnStar . I suspect if you do not follow GM's guide line , it might void the warranty ?

I'm starting to think that there is not much difference between vanilla M1, M1 EP, and M1 AP. Looking at how TBN and TAN behave in UOAs, I don't think base-oil quality improves much beyond that of a quality Group III, let alone by mixing small amounts of Group IV and V as Mobil 1 does in EP and AP. Initial TBN (amount of detergent pack) is not much improved over vanilla M1 either.
This said, I'm not a big fan of any 0W-20 grade of M1, including vanilla, EP, and AP. The additive package is too skinny. It has the smallest amount of ZDDP (650 ppm P) of all M1 varieties. Also, magnesium detergents are questionable in neutralizing acid byproducts (many threads discussing this). You are probably better off with something else. TGMO 0W-20 SN seems to be the best 0W-20 out there according to several VOAs and UOAs.

Oil change intervals are kept out on a server somewhere but the OLM has no idea if the filter was changed or not... More accurately stated, it is recorded when the OLM is reset but that is not proof that the oil or filter was actually changed when the OLM was reset.
