what's replacement for the Passat?

Female friend is trying to decide between a current gen. Passat and a Jetta SE (2010)...was trying to help her a little bit yesterday...test drove some both...she mainly paid attention to quietness, little compartments (oooh that's so pretty!!!) inside, and how the radio/nav area LOOKED...

I didn't test drive. She liked them both, but wants more "stuff" (nicer LOOKING radio, nav, etc) inside, so wants to get a Jetta..more for less, etc...I tried to get her interested in a TDI, but she's not interested...wants an SE because it has the nicer LOOKING radio - (doesn't give a poop about the sound)

I hated the silver plasticky trim stuff in the Passat. Looked and felt mega cheap. For some reason, the Jetta interior looked and felt better to me, perhaps due to the darker tones hiding the cheap-ish look, comp. to the silver-y plastic of the Passat.

(Sadly we also test drove a 2009 328i BMW sedan, and the inside felt super cheap for a $40k BMW. i am SO glad i have an E46 - much more solid feeling interior...)

Anyway, to the topic:
during our test drive, the salesman mentioned that 2010 is the last yr for the Passat? he wasn't sure what the replacement is going to be..

is it the CC, I wonder..or is there going to be something completely new to take the Passat's place?

(OT remark: VW salesman were a lot more friendlier than the BMW people. BMW people only paid attention to us after they saw that we've driven in my ZHP coupe.)

The new 2011 Jetta's interior is said to be cheaper feeling than the current 2010 Jetta. New Jetta costs less than current one. New mid sized sedan supposed to be out in Spring 2011. See:

The size difference between the Passat and Jetta is minimal. The interior and exterior dimensions are within 10%.

Buy the Passat if you want some of the upscale features. Otherwise, just get the Jetta. My brother just got a 2010 Jetta SE and it is really nice for the $21k he paid.

I told her to get a 2010 one, and not go for the 2011.

It seems the SE from 2010 is really hard to find...what's up with that? dealerships didn't have them at all, and i looked in autotrader also, didn't see any listings...

AFAIK there is no 2011 Passat,it will be released as a 2012.
I had a chance to use one of these new versions badged as Passat CC in Germany 2 months ago,they are super nice and has nice lines as is the new Scriocco.
I prefer the look and leather of the Audi A3 over the the Jetta.

Yeah she doesn't have Audi money, I think..
Idk why, I just can't find any new Jetta SEs on any of the dealer inventories...bunch of Jetta Limiteds, though..

I test drove a Jetta Limited and a Passat recently. I'd have to say I liked the Jetta better and the price was sure right.

As a former B5 owner it was sad to sit in a B6. Not the same car at all.

Tell her to buy a new Fusion. Less maintenance.

i told her EXACTLY that - her reaction wasn't clear-I have a feeling she might feel not so good in a "domestic". Fusion is a great car, IMO, but she wouldn't understand my reasoning behind that statement.

She's looking for more than Point A to Point B transportation. You cannot expect everyone to have the same priorities when it comes to cars.

Bigger than pictured Passat but smaller than Phaeton with a similar body shape.

That's CC, and it has been available for a few years now. It is not the new Passat which will be something different.

Smaller CC model? I have no idea what you're talking about.

In the US, there is the regular Passat and then there is the CC. Go to VW.com to see what they look like.

The CC is beautiful, IMO. I tried to convince my wife to get one, but she ended up with the C300 instead.

Ah, that must be some European naming convention. In the US, it's just called Eos.

In case of Eos, the CC probably means convertible coupe.
In case of Passat, the CC means comfort coupe.

That must be it.I thought i was seeing things a big CC and a small one.I knew the Comfort Coupe was for the Passat based car but yes Convertible Coupe sounds right for the Eos.

The re naming drives me crazy,the first time i saw a Audi 4000 in Germany i thought it must be a 4 ltr engine in it.

BTW You probably know this anyway but the 4000 was known in Germany as the Audi 90 basically a higher trim 80.Both had 1.8 ltr L4 non turbo engines.I think the later models of the 90 used the 5 cyl but I'm not positive.
