Yup. The 80 in Europe actually came with a number of different engines. My Dad had a 1986 80 with a 1.6-liter engine. They also came with 2-liter engines as well as 1.9-liter diesel engines.

Nice cars in their day.Was the 80 coupe the basis for S1 killer B cars?I saw them live in 85,i never saw anything that fast in my life before or after.Almost Formula 1 times on the road,good lord.

Yep. That was my thinking in 1996 when Mom got the Passat over the Jetta ///. For as many of them as they sold, you don't see any on the road.

The natural progression after a Passat is supposed to be an A6.

IMO, it looks OK, but nothing to write home about and not all that different from the current Passat. Interior looks unchanged.

I actually like it a lot better than the current model-I hate the shiny chrome plating on the front of the current gen Passat. This one looks less gimmikcy and more upscale, IMO.

It'd be cool if they put VAG's 3-liter TFSI in it and AWD, but that's probably not going to happen.

I just read this other article that says that what i posted above was the new Euro Passat. It will not be sold in North America. North America will get a new midsize sedan which will be manufactured in Tennessee, and it'll be a few more months before we see what it looks like. Some rough sketches are posted within the article though...
