What's everyone's favorite 0w-20 these days?

We're humans, new things excite us and also makes us nervous. Take the example of stop and start feature. People hate it. Most here will say that it's a disaster. But look at my Sienna, the thing just shut off at 70 mph, it does it hundreds of times a day. Its the secret to the insane gas mileage on this big ass van. And nothing has gone wrong. If Toyota does it, chances are you will be fine, but if Chrysler does it then your SOL lol.

I'm not very pessimistic about the cylinder deactivation technology, somebody will master it.

Oil is oil.
I agree. Facts is Facts. Read about the Mobil vs Castrol lawsuit from 1999. AND read Section 3 of the MSDS sheets, I'd venture to guess All Group III oils are the same. ... POA & Ester Base oils are a whole different ballgame. Personally, I've been running Redline in all my Vehicles since the 90's. Not just Engine, but Diff & Tranny too.

I'm surprised that Castrol Edge gold hasn't been mentioned (although Wemay did list it in post #79). It claims 25K OCIs are doable and at the current Rollback price of $25.97 at WM seems to be a bargain.

If they don’t already, most people know that since the Castrol thing, “synthetic” is a marketing term.
I ignore all that and look at manufacturer approvals and licensing. (And price.)
Every now and then without making it a hobby, I’ll do UOAs just to make sure I’m on the right track.
Most 0W20s and 5W30s that meet API xx, Dexos etc are quite generic.
“Turn them upside down and there’re all sisters” my grandpa used to say.

I've not been here in a few years and had a stockpile of good ol PP 0w-20, which has run out. So now I haven't caught up on the latest standards and what's good these days. Any suggestions for a good 0w-20 available at normal retailers or amz (not boutique expensive stuff).

[edit: also my car calls for 5w-20 but has 88k now, should I try something a little thicker like 0w-30?]

cheers!
Anything under $25 for 5Qts. I have no favorite.

It seems that most quality 0w20 oils work just fine in many applications with reasonable OCI's, the spoiler seems to be a combination of vehicle and use factors like short trips, low-tension piston rings, and forced induction combined with direct injection. I stopped agonizing over this and just switched to 5W-30 in my 1.5t and just change oil more frequently instead of endless UOA's. My 2.0 with port injection doesn't have a dilution issue so 0w20 works just fine. I've always had good results with Mobil1, so I tend towards their EP formation.

Except for the fact that there was no lawsuit.

I'm one of the 0W30/5W30 is the best 0W20 guys too. For my KISS cars at least, as they warm up once and typically don't shut off for 20-60 minutes.
If I had a plug-in hybrid or start/stop car then maybe 0W20 is actually better? I have been behind plug-in hybrids in the winter on the hwy for their cold engine start at 55mph going up a hill, and I guess some thinner oil might help that poor motor go from stone cold to working pretty hard in 10 seconds?

I use 0w-20 in the wife's Prius during the winter months... But mainly because of this killer sale, lol.
