What was your (reasonable) dream car as a teen?

Hawaii 5-0 was popular back then and they drove these boats. Thought the 4 door understated styling was cool. Since they were still too expensive late model used cars, I ended up buying a previous generation '72 coupe for $550 that got 50 miles per quart of transmission fluid.

I worked with a friend who's brother had a 1969 Chevelle SS396 in these same exact colors....Forest Green with the white belted strip.

I remember that the engine had a twin oval snorkel air cleaner, and chrome valve covers. It had a 4 speed M22 "Rockcrusher" transmission, and 12 bolt posi 3.73 rear axle. The car ran strong, but loved gasoline....which was pretty cheap back then....65.9 for regular, and 78.9 for premium if my memory serves me right.

The car had one peculiar flaw or issue. If he did a short stop after a long drive, it would get vapor lock and would not start. The immediate cure was to pull off the gas cap and try to blow compressed air into the tank by cupping your hands over the gas tank inlet. We later learned that the fuel pump had a short stroke issue that caused the problem due to a bent push rod on the pump arm.

I thought about that car a lot, as I approached being 16, and searched hi and lo for one, but never did find one.

My grandfather's 1969 Stingray 427 with side pipes. Was know it would be given to me until it went, along with everything else he owned to pay for medical bills.
I actually owned my second dream car, 1985 Mustang GT. Last year with holly carb and no third tail light. When I sold it after 12 years of ownership from new it only had 6k miles on it. Divorces suck lol.

These were my two biggest "reasonable" loves coming up through high school. Was always fascinated with a 4-cylinder Mustang that could out-handle and out-run the GT. And I believed Acura hung the moon and the stars back then. The Integra and Legend coupe were my definitions of cool, while everyone around me in that one-horse town wanted Trans Ams and Corvettes.

A relative of mine got a 1986 Mustang LX with the 3.8L V-6 from his parents. I looked up what it cost new, and surprisingly it was less than $8000, although it only got 120 HP out of that much engine?

Carpooled in a red one while in H.S. Only a year or two old. Nice car but only seemed like a 4cyl power wise.

I always wanted a 2004 Mercury Marauder or the Crown Vic LX with center console shift. One day lol

edit first car was a 89 Mercury cougar with the 3.8L and automatic. It blew the head gaskets at 200k after it blew the spark plugs out of the head from the cylinder filling up with coolant lol. It was not a bad first car.

Everyone probably already knows mine. Classic VW Beetle any year as long as it was a classic. I’m technically still a teen for another 8 months exactly but I did get my dream car two years ago in October of 2019. Belonged to my automotive teacher prior to me owning it. Wish it wasn’t yellow but it’s a classic so I’m happy. This is the day it came home.
