So, what other obsessive behaviors do people here have besides hoarding 500 quarts of oil and worrying about whether to use new or used oil on the oil filter gasket.

For me it's oral hygiene. Each day I brush my teeth 4 times, floss, use a dental jet 4 times, and rinse with mouthwash 2-3 times.

When I aquire a pen to write with I write a dot or small line on my left hand then use it on paper. If it doesn't write on my hand i write on the paper first then on my hand. If i catch myself doing it I can stop of course. It's something I've done since 5th or 6th grade--whenever we were instructed to use cursive only with pens.

i always assume worst case.

like, get a call from client. he's going to tell me that a building fell down somewhere and my errors are responsible for it.

not a nice way to live.

getting over it, slowly.

I track my mechanical automatic watch against the USNO master clock every day and based on whether it's fast or slow I know how to position it on the nightstand overnight to keep it within 3 seconds a day (usually better). And I keep a daily log of number of seconds variation and how it was positioned.

That and oil are my 2 big ones-I currently own over 46 gal of lubricants so the oil is worse of course. I'm totally paranoid about contamination and cleanliness which I guess is good for an oil junkie.

I keep my weapons really clean..to the point of taking them apart beyond what the manufacturer recommends. I know my USP well enough now I could practically take it apart completely, to bare frame and slide and put it back together in my sleep.
Although my car is clean now, its only because I took it though an automatic wash. If I clean it myself I will spend too much money on waxes and cleaners then take 3 days to do it.

Findng and fixing things that present an obvious safety hazard in my environment. Especially things that present an impalement hazard.

When reading a paragraph online I highlight it with the mouse then un-highlight it over and over again. The button clicks and drives others crazy.

If you go too often, you will remember why, then have to stop

Ok-then.

Past life experience theory gaining momentum.

Wrought iron fence phobia?

Praying Mantis is my phobia. Was probably in a bad Japanese movie in a previous life...

Checking doors a night and checking light switches which are always on (outdoors).

I hate when people touch my car windows. I have to get the smudges off pretty quick.

I tend to keep paperwork and boxes WAY longer than I should.

I had more when I was younger but they have gotten better. I was a clean freak.

Volume on the TV or HT has to be set on an even number.

DVD/CD/BR collection properly cased and in order, varies between alphabetical and by genre.

Garage shelves, oil rack, tools all in their proper place...I cant sleep if they aren't, gotta go out and straighten up. Same with my books and magazines(household clutter).....neat freak.

Very OCD about any Nylon or man made materials in clothing....Cant go there.

I'll stop....I could go on...and on......unfortunately.

Washing my hands.
I do all the little things when working on cars. Makes the job go slow but I would rather do the job better than what most people think is good enough.

Thank goodness I'm not a clean freak........

As mentioned in another thread I keep the icons on my desktop machines very neatly organized. It bothers me if they're not. My office is always in order as well, very rarely does a day go by that I don't give it the once-over. My bathroom is that way, too. The shared areas of the house are not so neatly cleaned, but I usually go over them once every day or so. My wife isn't a very neat person, but that doesn't really bother me as long as my areas are clean and straight. I also clean the refrigerator a lot. Almost every time we buy groceries, I hold an expiration inquisition to make sure that all the old stuff is thrown out and clean up any spills.

greenaccord02,
an OCD thing that I'm trying to institute in my place this year (and it's meeting with favour) is to use a sharpie, and record the opened date on every jar and bottle as we open it and fridge it.

Looks like it's even moved to the pantry.
