What do you buy with cash?

I'll keep some money in my pocket for summertime garage sales and fleamarkets but TBH we've pretty loaded up on anything we want.

I'd like to buy a used car that I could trust for a few Benjamins but I think that time is long past. Now a few thousand buys junk and it's about to where I'd rather just swipe my credit card at a lot instead. Too much cash to carry around.

Private party car sales have dropped to the lowest levels ever recorded , cars that are sold by an individual that sells 1 or less cars per year to an individual that buys 1 or less cars per year
make up less than 1% of the car market by $$$$

(aka it’s basically impossible for an average person to sell a used car to another unless it’s super cheap or niche)

The 45% number commonly noted ignores the $$$$ aspect which is more important
and the fact that pros masquerading as an individual on either side of the transaction are common.

Because the amount of money exchanged by individuals makes up an extraordinarily small percentage of the car market it tells you what type of cars are being sold.

The used market was destroyed when it became free to ship cars from the us overseas to many nations, this foreign demand makes insurance companies trigger happy desiring to wreck out as many cars with minor damage as possible.

Barber shop, I think that's just about it. Even when we divvy up a shared cost among friends, they all prefer Venmo payment to cash. I can't remember the last time stopped at a garage sale. That reminds me, I should probably have a garage sale...
Good point, same here. Barber shop. My 10 yo is like $26 before tip. Mine was $12 but it went up to $14 and so I ask my wife to do it. My hair grows so fast it really makes no difference if she makes a mistake. I do miss the haircuts of the 80’s, that was wild, and something for a young buck to really look forward to.

It’s a real pita when someone gives me cash as I really don’t have any means of depositing it. It isn’t like I can use an app and I never used an ATM don’t trust it. So say someone hands me $350 or $700 then it just stays in the wallet until I lose it, which is really frustrating. With credit there is a record and nothing is lost.

There is one restaurant we like that is cash only. That’s a good way to get rid of maybe $120 each time. We go 1x month there at most.

Mostly tips and small personal services, such as the barber shop. Diner bills where I can round the bill up to include the tip and just leave the money under a plate and leave.

What annoys me is pocket change. Whenever i leave a tip or are in a bank making a deposit, I throw in all my pocket change.

Lunch out with my old highschool friends (every couple months or so), tips, fast food drive-up, barbershop, low dollar purchases (under 10 bucks) Salvation Army bell ringers, homeless vets.

Made the move to cash back credit card well over a decade ago. Have enough travel points to book a flight and pay fancy hotel - or just apply cash back to me.
