Hi all,

I'm not sure if this is the right section to post this in. I'm sorry if it isn't

Here's my question: What oil would give better protection in a SUV towing a enclosed cargo trailer, a synthetic (PP, Mobil 1, Val. SynPower, etc.) or a HDEO?

Thanks,

Either one will give the same protection.

The primary advantages of using synthetic oils are better cold starting characteristics and longer OCIs. But they don't "protect" better than a good HDEO.

IF the truck is under warranty, get a good synthetic in the required grade. If the truck is older, use whatever you'd like. I think a synthetic 5W-40 is the best of BOTH worlds, so I'd go with that.

As do I.

mobil 1 makes a nice 5-30 for truck and suv. i have used several times in my personal hauler, i tow upwards of 10000 lbs. but like said before i have used 5-40 syn before and that worked out pretty well
