Ford Maverick 2.0 EB Oil Recommendation - Towing

I have a 2025 Ford Maverick with the 2.0 EB and tow a travel trailer is around 3300lbs in the summer. The max tow rating for the truck is 4000lbs. Ford manual says 5w-30 synthetic blend that meets their WSS-M2C961-A1 which is API-SP from what I am reading. Trying to understand if the extra cost or a specific oil is needed for my use case.
  • Kirkland 5w-30 (have on hand that I use in other vehicles)
  • Readily available 5w-30 at Walmart/Amazon like Pennzoil Platinum, Quaker State, Mobil 1
  • Mobil 1 Truck and SUV 5w-30
  • Mobil 1 ESP 5w-30
  • Mobil 1 0w-40

Even if you change frequently at 3k miles and spend an extra 10 bucks on a better oil like kirkland to 0w-30/40 and fill up 3 times every thousand miles that's only about 50 cents or so more per fill up if you look at it that way. Get Mobil 1 0w40 or Mobil 1 ESP 0w-30.
 
Thank you for all of the quick replies. Should I stick to the same oil year round, or is there any harm in switching oils between summer/towing and daily driving/winter?
 
Newish truck, ecoboost, Michigan, tow some, spec’d 5w-30.

Mobil 1 Truck and SUV 5w30 or Mobil 1 ESP 5w30, 5k mi oci’s. Done. Any of those options, and others, kept clean, be fine.
 
ESP 5w30 is API SP and over 12cst Checks the boxes if you want a little more viscosity cushion for a vehicle towing
With the trailer having the aero of a brick I'd expect you will see at least 20f hotter oil temps.
 
You can really wipe away your worries about what oil you're using in the 2.0eb. My grandson is heavy line for a major ford dealer here in southern california. Out of the thousands of 2.0 Mavericks and broncos they have never replaced an engine, except for overheating.Due to accidental overheating. Then only 4 engines. And like he said they have sold thousands of these. Now the engines the 2.0 eb prior to 2021 a lot of those engines replaced do to water intrusion into the cylinders at the head. Engine was redesigned. Like he says , just make sure the oil's kept clean five thousand miles max. They have replaced a few turbos.Those were attributed to coked oil. The part to be concerned with is the power drive unit passenger side of trans. It is close to the exhaust. Change it with sixteen ounces of synthetic gear oil. Ford put fill and drain plugs in the pdu and rdu.Every twenty thousand for pdu. And the eight speed transmission should be dumped and refilled every thirty thousand miles. My wife Has as a daily driver 24 mav awd 2.0 4k tow. I buy bulk Havoline LongLife Synthetic 5w30 . I use it in her escalade ESv, maverick and my f150 raptor. Be glad you didn't buy the stupid hybrid. They've had a lot of problems with those from charging systems to engine failures.

Don't the new Mavericks have GPFs? ESP is probably right up your alley with that.
Only late job 2 and job 3 have GPF. I think he said august 25 manufactured date , and later. Then it was only specifically seven states with stricter emissions. I'll ask my grandson when I talk to him to verify.
 
ESP 0w-30 or 5w-30? Looks like the 0w-30 has more approvals. It rarely gets below 0F where I live. Mine does not have the GPF. The 2.0 EB engine in the 2025 is different than previous Mavericks and now has dual fuel injection (port & direct).

0w-30 ESP : MB-Approval 229.31, MB-Approval 229.51, MB-Approval 229.52, Porsche C30, VW 504 00, VW 507 00

5w-30 ESP : MB-Approval 229.31, MB-Approval 229.51, MB-Approval 229.52, BMW Longlife 04

0w30 was never API SP

Yes, it says SQ on the jug. "Meets or exceeds". Same for C3.
Mobil websites are notorious for being out of date.

ESP 0w-30 is better formulated with a better additive pack over the 5w-30. the 0w-20 has the same add pack as the 0w-30 so one could mix them if they so wished without any additive pack performance loss.
