This is in my 2001 Silverado... Terrible picture, but looks pretty clean to me.

History from much before 100k is unknown. My brother-in-law had it for around 80k miles and typically used conventional oil (sometimes high mileage -Castrol maybe?- and sometimes a blend I think).

I've had it for the 30k miles. Changed the oil at least once a year. Intervals have been anywhere from 2,000 to 4,000 miles under my care. I've only used full synthetic. I've used Mobil 1, Pennzoil Platinum (typically high mileage), and Rotella Gas Truck most of the time until the last year or two. Rotella Gas Truck was easily the quietest (with 'piston slap' in mind...).

Lately my favorite has been Mobil 1 ESP 0w30 but did have a relatively short interval of Valvoline MaxLife full synthetic (I forgot what my reasoning was for that short interval). I do a fair amount of towing so I don't feel comfortable extending intervals because I definetely see high revs for extended times towing up steep grades.

Current fill is the 0w-30. It will likely have a 4,000 mile interval with a significant portion of that towing our travel trailer this summer.

Current odometer reading is 208k... But real life is likely at least a few thousand more than that because it's not corrected for the slightly larger tires.

I'm a bit confused here. You have a 25 year old vehicle with over 200,000 miles on it, it runs fine and your worried about what the inside of the oil pan looks like ?. Keep doing what your doing and when it blows up, get another one. It don't owe you anything.,,
Not worried at all. Just changed the oil and thought I'd put the scope in there to see what I could see. Disappointed in the quality of the picture, but from what I can tell (and others that I've shown) it looks pretty clean. That's all.

I think there's some varnish showing.

Why not run Valvoline Restore and Protect 5W-30? Given the oil change history, why not just clean things up? It protects great, and it's the same price as what you're running. No reason not to.
If it was showing signs of burning oil I would be inclined to give the Restore and Protect a try. It's a leaker, but it doesn't seem to burn a noticeable amount of oil... even towing up long and steep grades. But with revs pretty high in those situations I feel more comfortable with the HTHS of the ESP.
