What oil filters are you Mazda owners running on your 'Skyactive' 2.5's

Last I knew from my 2012 Skyactive, Mazda oil filters always attach in an upright position with threads at the top. The Mazda OEM does not need nor does it have an anti flow back valve. I know this doesnt sound like a big deal but the Mazda engineers, some of the best in the world decided it should not have one for some reason and it ISNT cost.
ADBV is only necessary when the filter isn't mounted with the opening at the top. As you noted, Mazda attaches their filters 'hanging' from the threads, so oil can't drain back - so no ADBV necessary. Also, obviously, less messy when you remove a used filter - unless you drop it like I did yesterday... LOL

OTOH, the Kohler engine on my lawn tractor mounts with the threads at the bottom, so oil leaks out EVERYWHERE when you remove it. The engineers certainly never considered the users / mechanics when thy designed that one.

This is a long running misconception. Even if a filter is mounted vertically with the base up, the ADBV will still prevent any oil in the galleries above the filter from draining back down through the filter. The filter may still be full of oil, but the galleries above the filter may not be if there's no ADBV.

Hint - punch a small hole in the dome of the filter when the oil is still hot and it will drain the filter. I've done this trick for decades on vehicles with vertical filters mounted base down.

Yeah, wouldn’t it be nice if all oil filter placement were like Mazda
