What is this Mustang worth?

This car was probably hammered by some kid, who is looking to unload it.

I would avoid..

6500 is almost putting you into a newer body GT with a 4.6L..

The only 302 mustang I would buy would be one that has been unmolested and from a salt free environment, preferably the west coast.

Depending on the age of your brother, he might want to check with his insurance agent before he buys a mustang of any color!

I will admit I am not a ford lover but the 302 is a durable engine. I would offer maybe $4000 tops if the body is in good condition. The hood, wheels and wing are IMO ugly as fook. Even if the engine could use rebuilding it most likely wouldn't need much. If it fires right up and sounds good with no odd noises and the oil pressure is good then the engine is most likely fine.

I would rather have a 302 than a 4.6 any day of the week plus that body style just never did anything for me. I personaly like foxbody stangs and that is what I would own if I was to buy a newer stang.

I can't talk any real sense into him. He's 15 years old, almost 16. I'm 25, btw.

I told him and his mom that he doesn't need a sports car for his first car, but considering she hates me, and he is immature, he's getting one.

All I can do is check the cars out. Well, he's worked his way up to a 2001 Mustang GT 5-speed. Stock with flowmaster mufflers. I've had 2 cars over 350 horsepower, one being 500 horsepower, and to me, it's a slow car (I test drove it). This coming from a Ford man. But, still, a 260hp/300tq manual RWD V8 Mustang is not an ideal beginner's car.

I'm worried to say the least. She's doing this out of spite, and I'm worried for his safety. I'm really stressed... I don't want to be a part of this. When he totals this from inexperience and a heavy foot, I'm gonna feel guilty just because I checked the car out and said it was ok. It is mint, female owned, highway driven. He's just learning to drive a manual, too, and he's hardly driven PERIOD. I can't believe she's doing this.

Please don't think I'm jealous, I'm worried.

You should have bought javacontour's $1200 250k prizm.

I know it's a complicated situation, not your money etc. I would steer them to a mechanical wreck the two of you could fix up together so he has some sweat equity in it, this alone is about all you can do to make sure he takes care of it.

Sounds like you need to tell your mother that you will not be a part of this decision and that it's a patently bad one.

Any and all consequences of this stupid decision will be on you if and when something goes wrong.

Tell your bro you'll help him when he comes to his senses and decides to get something practical.

A Mustang GT that's probably been hammered, even with the few mods, is not a fast car anyway! You can get some pretty quick little 4 banger fwd pocket rockets that will get good fuel mileage and are still fun to drive. That would be a better decision. Something like a Nissan 200sx SER.

The way I see it, if it's mechanically beaten, there is less chance for him to hurt himself.

If he has to fix it up, he'll have invested some sweat equity and is more likely to take care of it. Am I saying he'll approach this with the maturity of a 30 something? Nope.

It's something him and his mother will have to learn. If he wants your advice, he'll ask. If not, then hold your tongue. If he's like most teens, "he knows it all." What you say is likely wasted breath.

What is insurance like for a 16 year old boy in a V8 mustang? $2500/year?
Maybe you should recommend one that's about to self destruct... And then maybe they'll have the sense to see that an old "fast" car is probably beat to death...

yeesh 6k+ it baffles me. thatas about what that generation goes for up in ct 6-7, ive even seen a 47k mile one go for 9.8k and get sold (Admittedly SUPER clean and unmolested).. Heck if you want one, ive got a pretty clean 95 gt for sale, auto though its a bargain at 4.5k

and this ones actually been babied its life.. 2 owner lol (i just have a long commute and cant afford the gas anymore). but in all seriousness. as a person who has owned a few mustangs.. dont buy them in the summer. Seriously. Wait till winter. and buy one from the northeast during the winter. Dirt Cheap. in the spring summer and fall their prices skyrocket. KBB dosent affect the actual market value on older mustangs i have found out. unless youre really lucky and get some dope whos willing to take kbb. but most of the time that means its been hammered to death.. Thats why i stay away from modded stangs. You dont put performance parts on a sports car to go SLOW. and as for the 16 year old bit, yea. id say go buy him a clean ford escort for $500 for his first car.. 80 thundering horses is plenty to get in trouble with LOL and if he dosent wreck it or get a ticket in a year THEN get the nice car - plus youre left with a nice beater car to have for bad weather.

Oh, and the big brake kit isnt worth JACK - most likley front calipers and rotors from a cobra. you can do this swap for 800 in parts TOPS, more like 300 if you buy used calipers. Super easy bolt on. However. If it says Brembo or Baer 6 piston or alcon Monobloc, Heck even wilwood or StopTech let me know. I'll kindly go down there and purchase those unnessicary brakes from you if you get the car

I would add that the mods add little if none to the price.
