When it's 0 degrees F outside and we're into our 45th day of no sunshine, I get a kick out of going to one of those internet radio sites and tuning into a station from sunny Hawaii.

Ahhhhh...... warm ocean breezes, girls in bikinis, a tropical drink with an umbrella, Don Ho.......... o.k., back to chainsawing ice storm damaged trees at my work place. Ho-hum.

You didn't answer my question, Nacho.

A cool site for music fans. www.pandora.com. After it loads type in artist and it will search for similar artists.

VERY COOL! Thanks.

I'm not so much a "favorites" kind of guy, but I've had a long-standing affection for blues (e.g. Buddy Guy), classical (e.g. Prokofiev), and movie/stage musicals (e.g. Annie Get Your Gun). I'm also unusually fond of the sound people make when they swallow and "A Prairie Home Companion".

Personal faves

Iron Maiden
Bruce Dickinson
The various Zombie incarnations (white zombie, rob zombie)
Kate Bush
Tori Amos
Stevie Nicks
Fleetwood Mac
Gabriella Kulka (Iron Maiden meets Kate Bush and Tori Amos)

WE've got arounf 500CDs between us, so there must be more than the little list above.

Audio-Visions new age music, on XM Radio on my DirecTV channel 856. Very relaxing but not too out there.

I had to put a new battery in my car a couple of weeks ago. It disarmed the radio, and now won't work unless I pull the radio, find the serial number, and get the radio code. But you know what?

I prefer listening to the sound of the engine. It is a symphony to my ears! My wife doesn't agree. She keeps badgering me to fix the radio. I feel like the guy in that VW Fast commercial. The one where he is driving down the road with the windows down. She asks him to roll up the windows because the wind is messing up her hair. He replies, "It is kind of hard for me to hear the sound of the engine with all that yakking."

Click on bottom you-tube to see it, if you haven't.

Anyway, that's what I listen to these days. The sound of an internal combustion engine and the action of the clutch. Gimme that over the sound of Britney Spears, some right-wing angry guy ranting on the radio, or the 10,000,000 th playing of Led Zeppelin, (insert your own played out sound over the airwaves). Anyday.

Two sounds that I miss a lot are the sound of the Atlantic surf a quarter of a mile away as I slept, and the sound of my three big dogs breathing deeply and gently snoring all night.
