Asking this question becasue the Chevy Dealership put in Dexos 1 oil in my Brother's Chevy Cruze Deisel that requires Dexos 2 (5w-30) Diesel oil....And he has driven it 5000 miles...Car already has DPF issues as it is....

Both are Mid-SAPS oils, and one OCI won;t affect your DPF. If oil was always changed at the dealership and there are DPF issues early, that could be a cause, perhaps.
In this case, the HTHS and additive package won't be as stout. It won't kill an engine, but long-term use might create issues.

HD oils often have better(more?) soot dispersing capabilities which could lead to more wear if they aren't present. Not for a single oil change though. Maybe newer non-HD oils have better dispersing ability for direct injection use as well?

I wouldn't worry about it, but it seems like an opportunity to get some low cost or free work done on the DPF problems.
I'm sure GM wouldn't hesitate to back out of honoring their warranty if they knew you had regular oil in the car for a much shorter time than that.

He needs something that is Dexo2 but more importantly, MB229.51/52.
I would say Mobil1 ESp 0W30 from Wal Mart. Also, Dexos 2 is now obsolete so some oils won;t list it. OP should aim at MB229.51 or MB229.51/52.

So did the dealer actually admit to installing the wrong oil?

Sounds like the DPF issues were already happening before the improper oil change….however the owner should be able to get some consideration due to the screwup, I would think.

True. But my understanding is it had issues Before the oil change. Maybe the OP could clarify.
“Car already has DPF issues as it is....“

If it had prior DPF issues, as noted in post #1, then it probably "needed" a new DPF to the tune of $2k, a couple of sensors around $250 each and the labor to re/re.

without going into detail as to why, but i was desperate.

Ive used transmission fluid both as engine oil and engine coolant.

I made it home both times. Engines still run as intended.

The DPF issue isn't from the oil, and won't make them worse that quick right away. in my 2015 VW TDI i've purposely been dropping 8oz of 2stroke oil mix right in the fuel tank because of the crappy CP4.1 pump and terrible TERRIBLE quality of diesel fuel since they cut sulfur. . 65k miles later, no issues, and according to VAGCOM my ash level is far far below the expected mileage/level.
